Mapping 2:25:57 [3] 7.7 km (18:57 / km) +238m 16:25 / km

More fun stuff over on the right / NW side of the trails. A mix of gentle openish forest, some rocky ground and gnarly boulder field on a steep slope. Can see where an abandoned ski trail cuts across, with some open areas remaining, some close packed saplings and some fairly open under higher canopy.

Came back down the area where I'd been yesterday, but no luck on finding my phone...

Well, somewhere out there is a well used Motorola Droid smartphone, with a now dead battery.
That sense of unease when you reach down to see if there's any messages and there's nothing on the belt. "Hmmm, did I leave it in the truck? No, pretty sure I had it with me. Time to backtrack and see if it is laying somewhere obvious"
First thought is to call it and listen for the ring, but, of course, I have no phone to call with...
More up and down, back and forth, but no luck.

Orienteering race 48:32 intensity: (36 @0) + (2:24 @1) + (11:05 @2) + (29:37 @3) + (4:50 @4) 4.2 km (11:33 / km) +58m 10:48 / km
ahr:145 max:162 shoes: Arctic Claw 300

Definitely had home course, made-the-map advantage.
Map files I'd sent Paul was the work in progress I'd used last year, which was only partway through the transition from original hand-drawn contours to LIDaR contours. Contours had all been swapped out, but other than in the central part of the map point features and vegetation were only partially transferred. Oooppps

Other runners took it as a good exercise - "Man, the contours were great, but what was going on with the rest of the stuff!?!?!?"
Low to moderate turnout, mostly UNO regulars.
Nice courses by Paul -

And more mapping - some interesting areas.

Pondering thoughts for new XC trails to propose to whoever ends up as the new Nordic Center director.

Some mosquitoes, but manageable with heavy application of bug spray
