Note
(rest day)

Strolling around Ambleside, drinking too much coffee.... trip to ODG now?

Orienteering 42:53 [3] 6.2 km (6:55 / km) +150m 6:10 / km

JK Relay - Storthes Hall -M120+ Leg 3

Went out 5th, came back 5th..... First 4 team miles ahead

Messed up no. 1 so lost chance of overtaking Michael Hallett in BOK Men's Trophy Team toofar right then thought eastern stream was west one, before realising exactly where I was - 1:30

Ok then until 18, where too far left, vegetation not mapped well enough to sue so wasn't 100% sure where I was on slope and then dropped too low....SYO B Team (Colin Smith) overtook me here, but caught him again on path to 19 and got ahead up hill to finish (which killed me!!)

Orienteering race 1:22:19 [4] 11.87 km (6:56 / km) +350m 6:03 / km

Orienteering - JK Day 3 - Kilnsey - M45 - 17/70

No big mistakes like yesterday but quite a few smaller ones

No. 2 - slightly too far north/overshot - 0:20

No. 5 - drifted left and hit crag NW of control - 0:50

No. 7 - dropped too low and then looking early - 1:00

No. 9 - drifter right after wall crossing - 0:45

No. 12 - went to left crossing points which added climb back to control, then a bit of searching at end as it was a bit vague - 1:30

No. 16 - drifted left - 1:00

No. 19 - Too far north after crossing into enclosures - 0:20

Felt sluggish at start and really struggling with breathing, especially up hills to 8 and 9.... some good splits after 12 and felt like I was pushing a bit harder here

Orienteering race 1:18:21 [4] 8.32 km (9:25 / km) +319m 7:54 / km

JK Day 2 - Wass Forest - M45 27/84

10 - stayed on ridge rather than dropping down so was far too high and overshot - 1:00

11- poor route and ended up going through rocky bits - should have dropped to path 1:10

15 - Drifted too far left out of 14 - 0:45

19 - Fastest split :-) It was uphill!!!!

22 - confused by all unmapped boulders and dropped too low 0:40

23 - OOOOOPS - bleedin awful - came off fence corner ok, was looking for rhodies as all other dark green had been..... too far right, didn't even see brambles that it turned out green was, too high, found another control on a boulder.... thought it was big one south east of control (it was), but because still couldn't see green wasn't convinced, saw rhoddies further south, went that way into what turned out to be the OOB, but fence was not there where I crossed, contoured back north (too far north) then dropped back down found a control, read code 22 from desc. sheet - left control but realised straight away,... still didn't see green (7:00!!!)

24 - Didn't seen control in what I thought was re-entrant - it was control was hidden (0:20)

25 - another quick uphill leg

Was losing time on all down hill legs - need to be more aggressive on downhills!!

About 11 minutes lost in mistakes,,,, grrrrr (especially no, 23)!!!

Event: JK 2016

Orienteering race 18:36 [4] 3.64 km (5:07 / km) +85m 4:35 / km
ahr:165 max:178

JK Sprint - Leeds University - M45 12th/107

Best result in a while (probably since last years Midland Champs)

Main error was poor route choice 3 to 4 (25 secs), otherwise a few seconds lost here and there through a bit of hesitancy

Tried to keep running in control which worked well...
