Leckhampton Hill featuring the Devil's Chimney - Blue 5.6km
Not feeling great in the legs unsurprisingly, so just went out to try and enjoy a new area - I have walked around here so knew on a lovely day like today it was probably worth a visit.
Trotted around the first few ok - lovely views across Cheltenham to The Malverns and beyond leaving no. 4 - could have just sat down for a bit to make the most of them.
Dropped too low on 5 and was dropping even lower as cond=fused by crags/mapping until saw Jason Howell climbing back up and turned and saw control above me
Troed to be clever at 21 to try to sneak back past Adam Hampshire - but failed and had to climb back up
Again, stunning views at finish so sat down to enjoy them this time
No other real mistakes just extremely slow on ups and probably even slower on downs as was far too steep for me.
Was cursing the planner for no. 14, but this did set up a good leg to 15 - I would probably have missed out 12 and 13 and had an extra one lower down, as it was a bit gratuitous going up the extremely steep hill, just to go all the way down again - 1 to 12 had at least 40m climb in a 150m leg!!
The results will show that I beat Geoff Ellis by 10 minutes, but sounds like he ran parts of the yellow in the middle of the Blue to assist his son!!!
Well over 5% climb - but enjoyable(ish) none the less - just proved my ankles cannot cope with steep down hills nowadays
