Orienteering (Planning/Mapping) 4:10:00 [3] 16.0 km (15:38 / km) +677m 12:54 / km

Tagging control sites, checking tags Mike had put out and some map corrections.

Checking out worst bits of forestry work, so they can be avoided.

Saw two giant boar...… had a eye ball to eye ball stand-off with one, before it ran off - making me the winner :-)

Orienteering race 1:10:10 [3] 8.35 km (8:24 / km) +363m 6:54 / km

NGOC Regional - Blakeney

Fun course - struggling with ankles and right glute after run last night, so was feeling very sluggish at times and struggled on down hills as usual, especially on muddy/slippy parts.

Concentrating on technique, which generally worked, especially attack points (following watching Megan's video yesterday).

Lost confidence on 6 as everything seemed to fit, having crossed the horrid gully, but just didn't see control in lovely open bit of wood, but it was further down than expected, hidden behind a tree from my approach angle (Matthew said he saw it from a long way off!!!).

No. 8 - missed my attack point! which should have been easy to spot, path crossing, so wasn't sure on exactly where I went in off path and was looking too early, mistaking an unmapped crag for one just above control

Otherwise reasonably clean.

Miles behind all the 21's as expected, but also Pete W who got amongst them and Clive

Note

Popped to Moseley Green after to check out whether there had been anymore forestry work. Some clearing has taken place in finish area and a muddy large extraction lane appeared near last control!!! All a bit worrying.

Also, extremely disappointed to find out this week that BUCS takes place the same weekend as the Southern Champs, which is a National Event. This degrades the event somewhat, so not sure why that has happened.

Although it did mean I has someone running my M21E course, beforehand to get some very useful feedback - just hope I get some M21E runners in attendance!!!
