Orienteering race 13:48 [3] 2.91 km (4:45 / km) +23m 4:34 / km

British Sprint Heat - M50 B Heat

Started ok and was actually in lead after no. 6

6-7 went down steps part of way to sports pitches and turned back - 10 secs

9-10 was running with a guy from Lei (who it turned out worked on the campus) who got to 9 just in front - I went to go east to 10 but he went west, so I stupidly hesitated and saw way through - it turned out to be slower any way - 20 secs

15-16 retraced steps back out of control rather than going right and then exacerbated error by not seeing gap, so running a lot further around buildings - 20 secs

7th in heat, so just missed out on qualifying for A Final - frustratingly I started same time as Matthew Owen and Paul Taylor who both qualified, despite finishing well after me (unfortunately luck of the draw, but doesn't feel right still!!)

Orienteering race 12:44 [3] 2.27 km (5:37 / km) +39m 5:10 / km

British Sprint M50 - B Final

First few ok

Confused coming out of 4 and a little bit out of control - ended up going up steps SE of 4 and in to 5 from SE - 30 secs

5 -6 - didn't see gap in hedge to right of line (why does this feel like an eyesight test all the time), so went too far left - 15 secs

Caught Ifor at 9 - but hesitated just before control, as briefly lost track of where I was - 10 secs

Hesitated into 15, punching the control just before mine first

2nd - 1 second behind Mark Chapman (who I beat by 1 second in heat)

We were well ahead (45 seconds) of 3rd (who had also been in our heat in morning)

Lovely run from Painswick- out via Sheepscombe, Workmans Wood, Cranham to join Cotswold Way just before Coopers Hill, then CW through Coopers Hill and Painswick Beacon.

Nice and steady, but ideal running conditions - lovely day but not too hot.

Knee generally ok.
