Orienteering race 1:15:10 [3] 10.39 km (7:14 / km) +336m 6:14 / km

Western Night League - Chalford (Urban/Rural)

Very scrappy start!

Very muddy track to first (213) - in hindsight should have missed this and started with 202 and 212 (both of which I missed)

Thought SI Card had not been activated properly for SIAC, but took two or three controls to realise it was the units!

215 - 214

Got caught at the level crossing after 216 (felt like a good two minutes)

Missed the lower footpath to 217 and ran up into woods and to bend. Scott was about to go up that way when I got back to path junction and I was too nice and told him it was wrong way.

Went over on ankle again just after - was ok again after the fields. Also had a back spasm climbing from 227 to 218 and had to stop (hurting quite a bit now!).

229 to 230 took a route that went through 'white' woods but had to fight way through holly bushes.

Much better after that. (219, 222, 228, 221, 203, 223, 205, 204, 208, 207, 206, 201, 209)

435 (minus 2 for being 10 seconds late I think!) - I believe Scott got same but only lost 1 point for being 2 seconds late.

Note
(rest day)

Very lazy week. Hopefully just a blip with clocks going back and dark wet evenings.

Hopefully orienteering this weekend will be less wet than last weekend!

Orienteering - Mountain Bike 2:40:27 [3] 30.88 mi (11.5 mph)

SLOW MTBO Holbury St Mary

Another frustrating experience with rain, mud, glasses and lack of ability to read map!

A bit of a half hearted effort, but enjoyed the riding when I knew where I was.

Started on reds and missed bridleway junction on way to first and ended up climbing a muddy track which I didn't need to.

Took a muddy track route on one leg as didn't see yellow road on map, as very little contrast between the yellow and green woods.

Got lost near Leith Hill tower.

Then got lost again later trying to find blue 31.. Need to look at GPS to see which track I took and whether they were on the map!

It was very wet and very muddy.
