Forgot my watch until after the first little grunt. This is a serious bike race, no easy spinner climbs, just monster mashing climbs with nasty hike a bike sections. Which, of course, means that it was fucking awesome and super hard. The easiest climb (the only climb without a hike section) is the opening climb which is 4.5 miles at 13% sustained. We took freezing rain all the way to Taylor Pass which meant thumbs were frozen and we were all trying to shift with our palms. Proper backcountry shit! I slashed a tire (again) on a section I shouldn't have been riding, frustrating. Took me forever to fix the flat w/frozen fingers and I exploded my Co2 all over so had to use my mini hand pump. Then I babied the descent I'd have hammered off Star Pass b/c I was scared of flatting with the tube in the rear tire. Derailleur broke somewhere along the line too! So, two bike races and I'm yet to come out without a mechanical. That aside, I'm coming back to see how fast I can go on proper legs.

Grand Traverse Run. Went out easy and ran pretty well for most of it. Did struggle hard between Taylor and Ajax which cost me a bunch of time miles 29-36 (bummer, but ok). Ended up with a 2 minute PR. It's basically impossible to save your legs well at this for the bike because the descent down into Aspen is just so fucking steep.

Back late from SD last night. Had to pry myself out of bed to do this. Want to keep it rolling a bit after a nice break. Just base stuff this week with the races on Saturday and Sunday. Weight slightly up which is expected with less running and more food.
