Back for the 3rd Stars MTBAR event. Brought the family back again, so Mrs. W and the girl did the novice course together and the boy and I did the open course. Tough call whether to have him do the nav on the novice course, or follow along with me on the open, but I wanted him to do the more challenging riding. Maybe next year I'll make him nav more.
We had a busy day post race (2 hockey practices...), so Bash let us start first. I went around to avoid the first long climb, but ended up not mattering. The boy went out a little hard and blew up climbing on the way to 2, so we had to dial it back and keep it steady. Over to 3 and we missed the small trail like everyone else. Doing good over to 4 and 5, with me pushing to help him up the hills. Saw Amber just before 6 and then I had my brain cramp and headed directly towards 8. The boy wasn't impressed that we had to climb back and go get 7. He did well on the wet single track, except once when he slipped off his pedal and went down on the top bar. Ouch. After 9, I offered him some water, but apparently squirted it right into his lungs so much sputtering ensued. Looking at my watch as we came down to 13, I realized that the boy was just about done and we were out of time, so decided to drop 14 and just pick up 15 and finish. I took the blame for my CP7 braincramp for our DNF.
Fun day and the big rains tapered off by the time we got out on course. Our other racers had their own adventure trying to find 9, so I drove out to find them, but luckily they were on their way to the finish with smiles on their faces.
Great day, thanks to Bash & Mick and STARS. Sorry we had to rush back to the city for hockey practice.
