Superb weather day; warm but fresh. The commish definitely has connections in high places.

The day (and night) turned out to be a great wake up call. Until the last few controls of the night-O I never managed to get my brain to stop being tempted by rough orienteering, and instead respect the maze and stay in contact. This in spite of many many massive errors. Dumb, dumb, dumb. Funny how the brain works (or doesn't!).

It probably didn't help that I actually caught up to feet by control 5 in the classic. But that just made me even more sloppy, and I exploded into getting totally lost to 7. I settled down a bit after that, but then I caught up to Alex at 15. And boom went the brain again.

Ran leg 2. My partner, Guy, had a good first leg. So I feel especially bad that I sucked so bad.

Orienteering race (Corn Maze Night-O) 26:47 [5]

Went counter clock wise. Was a bit annoyed at the beginning because I was stuck behind a young guy slowing me down. Not too bad to the first 5 cps, then off to 69 and major, spectacular fail. Ended up at #68, not once, not twice, not thrice, but 4 frigging times. When I finally did reach #69, I *finally* managed to get my brain to focus. And, gosh, it was so easy to find everything after that.

So one might think I went home mad. Not at all! Despite my horrid, horrid orienteering, it was, once again, terrific, terrific fun. Easily my favourite event of the year. Thanks so much PG. Hopefully next year I'll find a way to turn on the O-brain before I arrive.

Woah, humidity back with a vengeance. Dew point in 70s.

Hard work, dead legs continue. John started with an easy gait that I couldn't match. Promised myself a walk break at 5K if I could keep him in sight. Which I did, and so I did. But then John faded in the last 1K, and I ended up passing him, which just mean't we both finished feeling pathetic.

On the other hand, race had 142 finishers, for an 8K, in horrible humidity. Really quite amazing. When I started attending these 10 years ago, it was rare to get 50 people for 5K on a good day.

Summer was back, but only normal summer, which is bearable.

Another dead legs day. At least no bee stings this time.

Fresh, cool morning ... at the start. But was quite humid by the end.

Another tough day for me. John keeps improving; but I'm not. Sigh.
