Orienteering race (NorAm Long GreenX) 1:30:10 [3] 6.0 km (15:02 / km)
shoes: Integrators

Nice weather, great terrrain and map, excellent course. Fun day, *very* glad I went.

My O was scruffy, lots of small errors, poor route choices, and not 1, not 2 but 3 friggin' 180s leaving controls. Good grief! Fortunately, however, I was able to catch the goof ups relatively quickly, usually within a minute. So while no big disasters, I still probably threw away an easy 8-10 minutes verses a clean shuffle.

My goal/hope/wishful thinking was to be within 20 minutes of the winner, and I missed that by 10 minutes. More practice! However, in the local friendly competition known as "unlikely-to-ever-happen-again-in-our-lifetimes", both Phil and I earned another notch in our compasses. Whoop! (We may need to rename the competition.)

Lastly, I did get a small brush with greatness. No TG sightings for me today, but Emily was walking up to the finish as I was leaving. And yes, she was smiling.

Meh, at least I went. Skipped my usual post race beverage; didn't feel like I'd earned it.

Orienteering race (Corn maze Classic) 16:09 [4]
shoes: Integrators

Shoe sucking mud, swamps, and lakes! The legend of Mike's maze grows.

No Zen for me today. Never managed to achieve much focus out there, many mistakes.

Biggest goof was in the Night-O. During map B managed to unintentionally miss a control, and I didn't realize until 2 or 3 controls later. Decided I couldn't rely on a secret bonus skip, so went back and repeated several legs. Fortunately that turned out to be the correct thing to do.

But again, great fun. And it looks like I'll never forget this event. I didn't change before driving home, and now my car's driver seat is no longer the same color it used to be.

Other precious moments. (1) When, before leaving for Wolfies, the commissioner announced that none shall reveal to a certain someone about the mud. (2) When that certain someone walked into Wolfies, and was met with a loud friendly cheer of "Phil!". (3) And that apparently the commissioners directive was honored... tee hee.
