Orienteering (West Point) 1:11:26 [3] 5.0 km (14:17 / km)
shoes: Integrators

Day 2, more fun, happy, happy.

OK, not so happy getting there. The driving directions were absolutely useless. Yesterday, they just had the final left vs right turn backwards. Today they left out two round-about intersections several miles apart with no signs as to the correct road. If not for helpful directions from several cyclists, I'd have never found the place. As it was I arrived 40 minutes later than planned, and almost missed my start time.

But the O was fun, and the course quite good. Today my flagged big mistake was indeed my fault. My compass pointed right, but my spidey sense pointed left, and I went left. Compass was correct, doh.

Trick now is to remember this fun, and try to get out the door for some exercise. In only 6 months I've fallen another 10 minutes behind my peers.

Orienteering race (West Point) 1:08:45 [4] *** 5.0 km (13:45 / km)
shoes: Integrators

Yaaay, orienteering again! Happy, happy.

Daft routes to 4 and 5. To 4 thought right would be good, so instead tried to go straight through the green swamp ... bad idea, gee what a surprise. To 5 saw the low left route, thought it excellent, and so instead went high right. My self destruct decision system was in fine form.

However, the split system has flagged leg 12 as my biggest error -- totally not my fault. Circled around the correct northern boulder of the pair near the end, but no flag. Stood puzzled, surveying the way I'd come, and the map, searching for an error. Circled again. No ideas. At some point decided might as well check the southern boulder and there was the flag. Totally mis-hung and yet it seems I was the only one who even noticed. But a minor blip on a decent course, on a good map.

Then off to sight see. I visited the FDR national historic sight in Hyde Park,
and then took a walk on the Walkway over the Hudson.

Walk/Hike (Hanging controls.) 2:30:00 [1]
shoes: Integrators

Hanging the controls and flagging for this evenings "Phil training".

Decent turn out, and again a most excellent re-hydration session afterwards. Great to see everyone.

Couple annoyances. (1) Dang ticks. Avoided these guys for years, but had 1 bite in he woods Sunday, 1 more today, and then another at home on the couch *after* I'd already showered. Sneaky bugger. (2) Dang flying bugs, black flies maybe? Not an issue when moving, but annoying as all heck standing around at the picnic tables. (3) Blisters. For some reason my feet have suddenly decided they don't like my o-shoes. So now I have blisters on both heels, which is gonna be fun at West Point.
