Run (Treadmill) 50:00 [3] 5.23 mi (9:34 / mi)
shoes: Asics 2150 Trail Runners

Long time since my last run.
* Terrible.
* Need to run, but definitely do NOT feel like it.
* Absolutely no motivation whatsoever.
* Breathing was SOOO hard at 10 min miles!!!
* What is going on here??

Run (Outside) 2:41:56 [3] 14.22 mi (11:23 / mi)
slept:8.5 shoes: Asics 2150 Trail Runners

Rancho San Antonio. Feeling really... fatigued - perfect word. Mentally tired, 20 min to warm up. Once I got going it was okay, not great but I had the energy to keep going and I could have kept going - mental energy not related to nutrition or physical.

Run (Outside) 1:02:32 [3] 6.92 mi (9:02 / mi)
slept:5.5 shoes: Asics 2150 Trail Runners

Was supposed to do 1 min ON (6:55) / 1 min OFF (9:00) for 30 min. I wasn't able to verify exact pace every minute, so I went by feel and just checked the clock every minute in order to stay on track. I also checked mileage every 15 min. Should have been the following: 1.77 miles every 15 min (8:27 m/mile) by averaging 6:55 & 9:00.

1.5 miles, 15:00 min, warm up (10:00 m/mile)

1.92 miles, 15:00 min (a little too fast) (7:48 m/mile)
1.78 miles, 15:00 min (better, I was getting tired) (8:25 m/mile)

1.72 miles, 17:32 min, cool down (10:11 m/mile)

So, I had to literally drag myself out for this one. I was soooo tired, when I got out to where I was going to run, I put my seat back and felt asleep in my car for 15 min. Finally, I said, I just have to get up and do this!! It's always hard starting. I only got 5.5 hrs of sleep, huge factor for me, I don't do well without sleep. Also, ate too much today. It's been a long time since I felt like I was going to throw up on a run, well, today was it.

But as usual, glad I did it!! :) Always feels good afterwards.

* Breathing still a little difficult.
* Overall, good run :)

slept:6.0 (rest day)

Feet still hurting, advil ALL day!
Started work at 8am, didn't finish up and get home until midnight, so even if I really wanted to, could not have gotten run in, unless I did it in the morning before work.

Run (Outside) 34:19 [2] 3.23 mi (10:37 / mi)
slept:9.5 shoes: Asics 2150 Trail Runners

Okay, okay, okay, so I complained enough on my last post to last a year. Anyway, I felt much better today. Toes are another story but my body feels okay.

Strange thing happened at the start of today's run. (Caveat: I've never run the day after a race.) As I started running, I couldn't get enough breath/air, I tried to take a deep breath and I started coughing and just felt like I couldn't breathe. It got better but as you can see my run averaged about 10:38 m/mile yet I was breathing like I was running a 7 min mile. I feel like my throat muscles are swollen up from yesterday's 10 hrs and so as soon as I expect them to start breathing heavy, they're like, "No way!".

Anyway, felt good to do the run, was supposed to do 45 - 60 min but at least I did it. It wasn't easy but that's okay.

Run (Outside) 10:49:17 [3] 52.7 mi (12:19 / mi)
slept:6.5 shoes: Asics 2150 Trail Runners

Okay, either I forgot how hard a 50 miler was or I forgot how hard it was. That was a killer run yesterday. ALL HILLS!!!! There were no flats, or very few, it was all up and down.

I made the mistake of starting out a little fast, even though I held back and walked the uphills but I could have walked a few more. It's hard at the beginning when you feel so good.

Well, what ruined me at the end were my big toes. I forgot to clip even though they're not long by any means. At about mile 38, I started feeling pain, by mile 42 I was really hurting. I could feel the nail and could feel the pain as it traced down into the toe and toward the knuckle... ouch. That really slowed me down on the downhills because you're pushing forward. Anyway, one female passed me with less than 1 mile to go!!! I was really frustrated. Today my big toenails have pushed through the skin and they are coming off at both ends, they throb.

I don't have final results but from what they told me yesterday, I was 3rd female out of my age group, 5th female overall and twenty something out of the 65 or so that ran. I'll check the website and re-post my final times.

What did I learn? I didn't think I was lacking energy and I felt really good. Maybe I could have eaten more, I probably could have drank more, it was definitely cool out there so I thought I didn't need more drink. I did the S-caps, those were awesome!! I know they helped for sure. Overall my energy/salt intake/drink was great, it was those damn toes that hurt.

It's been a long time since I ran this far. Am I ready for Leadville? Don't know, had a lot of self doubt out there. How could I do 100 miles when it hurts this much to do a mere 50?? Today, I can't even move. I can barely walk and I'm supposed to run 45 - 60 min. I'm glad I ran this and I'll have to see how I feel in 2 days when I'm fully recovered.

Oh, one more thing, everyone agreed, it wasn't 50 miles, it was 52 point something -- everyone had something similar on their GPS', that's what I'm putting down! :)

Got the results:
OFFICIAL TIME: 10:49:17
27/89 Overall
5/26 Female Overall
3/9 Female Age Group

Run (Outside) 1:24:24 [3] 10.0 mi (8:26 / mi)
slept:7.0 shoes: Asics 2150 Trail Runners

Incredible run! Felt awesome, just slow enough to relax and enjoy, yet hard enough to push and feel a little pain. Was supposed to alternate between 9 min and 8 min miles. These are my splits:

1st mile: 9:27 warm up
2nd mile: 8:57 m/mile
3rd mile: 7:56 m/mile
4th mile: 8:27 m/mile
5th mile: 7:50 m/mile
6th mile: 8:45 m/mile
7th mile: 7:54 m/mile
8th mile: 8:42 m/mile
9th mile: 7:55 m/mile
10th mile: 8:33 cool down

Run (Treadmill) 1:00:00 [4] 6.21 mi (9:40 / mi)
slept:7.5 shoes: Asics 2150 Trail Runners

Supposed to do: 15 min warm up / 30 min of 1minON/1minOFF @ 9:35 m/mile (9% incline vs. Flat) 10 min cool down.

Did the following:

15 min warm up

5 X 1 min EACH
(ON 9% @ 6.2 mph (9:40 m/mile)
OFF flat @ 6.2 mph)
1 min MORE
OFF flat @ 6.2 mph

4 X 1 min EACH
(ON 9% @ 6.2 mph (9:40 m/mile)
OFF flat @ 6.2 mph)
1 min MORE
OFF flat @ 6.2 mph

3 X 1 min EACH
(ON 9% @ 6.2 mph (9:40 m/mile)
OFF flat @ 6.2 mph)
1 min MORE
OFF flat @ 6.2 mph

2 X 1 min EACH
(ON 9% @ 6.2 mph (9:40 m/mile)
OFF flat @ 6.2 mph)
1 min MORE
OFF flat @ 6.2 mph

2 X 1 min EACH
(ON 9% @ 6.2 mph (9:40 m/mile)
OFF flat @ 6.2 mph)
1 min MORE
OFF flat @ 6.2 mph

So, I took four 2 min breaks instead of going straight and just doing 1 min breaks each time. Then I did an extra one at the end because I felt like a cheater! :) It was all I could do!

10 min cool down - FLAT!!

slept:8.5 shoes: Asics 2150 Trail Runners

1.62 miles - 18:00 min - warm up (11:06 m/mile)
.25 miles - 3:46 min - strides X 6

1.00 mile - 7:15 m/mile
.29 miles - 2 min
1.00 mile - 7:18 m/mile
.19 miles - 2 min
1.00 mile - 7:27 m/mile
.14 miles - 2 min
1.00 mile - 7:31 m/mile
.20 miles - 2 min
1.00 mile - 7:30 m/mile

1.52 miles - 14:52 min - cool down (9:46 m/mile)

As always, intimidating at the start, glad to have done it. A little more difficult than last time, maybe because of yesterday's crazy run. :)

slept:8.5 shoes: Asics 2150 Trail Runners

Wow. Hills. So, I just read that I was supposed to do a flatter run. Oops. Huge oops because this was a freaking unbelievably difficult hill run. That's why I only ran 2 hr 35 min as opposed to the 3 hrs and why I only went 13 miles.

I'll pay closer attention next time. :)

Run (Treadmill) 1:00:00 [5] 5.38 mi (11:09 / mi)
slept:5.0 shoes: Asics 2150 Trail Runners

Supposed to do the following: 10 min warm up / 40 min at 8% incline at 6 mph / 10 min cool down - no prob, right?

Are you freaking serious!!@#$?! Wow!!! That just about killed me, holy smokes!!! Are you just testing me??? I sure hope so.

This is what I did:
10 min warm up @ 6.4 mph @ .5% incline

13 min @ 6.0 mph @ 8.0% incline (OUCH!!!)
5 min cool down @ 3.2 mph @ 8.0% incline

5 min @ 6.0 mph @ 8.0% incline
5 min cool down @ 3.2 mph @ 8.0% incline

6 X the following:
(1 min @ 6.0 mph @ 8.0% incline)
(1 min cool down @ 3.0 mph @ 8.0% incline)

10 min cool down @ 6.0 mph @ .5% incline

I tried... I really did, 13 min was as far as I could go on the first.

Note

Wow! 2 days in one week. Not good.

Well, moving places again. Rats scratching in the walls this week have not allowed for good sleep or energy for my runs. I'll blame it on that. :(
