Orienteering race 2:07:01 [3]

Rocky Woods

A blue course. How can I resist?

1 Ran around on the trails but didn't go out along the road. It was a bit of a fight to get into the control

2 Back out the same way and over the top of the hill to the indistinct trail. Nailed the control, but never found the stone wall.

3 Confused on my exit, and spent a while bashing through the woods out to the large trail, but then didn't really know where I was. Had to stop and think before running up the hill.

4 Seemed to be placed way to high in the reentrant. Was up on the flat area above.

5 Up over the top of the hill and down what was really a cliff from the viewpoint. I intended to go between the swamps expecting them to lead me right into the control. I should have known better, as I always get lost here. Ended up half way along the skinny swamp, and crossed, then around to the control.

6 Big trail! The trail at the bottom of the hill was all dug up like someone had been driving equipment along it. Stayed just above after running straight downhill. Then ran along through the woods to find the hill.

7 Found the digger! Mini excavator sitting along the trail along with lots of gravel. Mega error after crossing the trail though, and ended up in the reentrant to the north. Had to run back out to the trail and then in the proper way.

8 Bash Bash Bash

9 More small reentrants.

10 West to the trail then cut in along the lake. Saw JJ running the wrong direction along the trail here.

11 Into the area fine, swamp and hills as catching features. Thick blueberries the whole way and couldn't find a hilltop. Spent a ton of time searching around in here, back and forth of the swamp.

12 trails and then run in off the corner.

13 Spent some time with JJ here pondering what made those particular rocks on the map more important the all the other ones around us. Control was way too high.

14 Out to the trail and then almost made a huge error when I wasn't paying attention to which control I was supposed to be navigating too.

15 water. I know I spend 49 seconds sitting on the ground here drinking, because I punched entering and exiting.

16 East on the trails and then in around the green. Big tree branch down nicely hiding the reentrant.

17 Watched JJ make a mistake here. We both ran out to the trail and crossed, but I was on the south of the big trail, JJ went to the north. It turns out the small trail is now actually a massive trail, so JJ saw that and thought it was the massive mapped trail. The control was more on a cliff than a dot knoll.

18 Trail run. Took the scenic route up the cool trail to the west. That way I got to run a different trail on the way out.

19 Wandering in the boulder field along the swamp trying to fund the white opening where the rock would be. Should have stayed on the trail longer.

20 Across the green and back through the start.

Park-O race 24:00 [3]

Peters Hill Park-O

When the right people don't show up, even I can be second.

Felt fast running, but it was like intervals. Run really fast, and then try and make sense of the map and find the control. The north side of the road really needs some help.
