Orienteering race (Ski-O) 1:08:16 [4]

Craftsbury Ski-O

Friday Jan 2, 2015 #

Strength 1:00:00 [3]

Clearing a big birch tree that fell on my mainline with a very dull axe. The tee was about 18" dbh, but forked quickly up its main trunk so I was able to limb the whole tree than cut through a few of the forks to get the line and wire free. It would have been a lot less work to trudge down the hill to the shop and sharpen the ax first instead of just bludgeoning my way through things. Sore shoulders and thumbs now.

Hiking 1:30:00 [1]

Out through the sugarbush clearing more trees from the lines, then off the end up the saddle to the top of Holt mountain and back.

Skiing 1:00:00 [3] 11.0 km (5:27 / km)

Out Danby road to the stone bridge, then up to the right to the top. Conditions were really icy, so the run back down hill was interesting.

Skiing 45:00 [3] 7.0 km (6:26 / km)

Around Kens fields and the pines. Lots of loops, but good coverage on what we were skiing.

Monday Dec 29, 2014 #

Skiing 45:00 [3] 8.8 km (5:07 / km)

Danby road out and back.
First ski of the season. I didn't know what the conditions would be like, so I went out on the super rock ski peltonens (skate skis that had a bit of kick wax on them, and no edges at all). It turned out to be quite nice except where Cameron drove a tractor on it with some farm implement trying to break up the once and just made death cookies. It had been over with a tidd tech out to the stone bridge and up that road. Beyond that point was a lot harder ice surface.
