Good steady pace. Working hard throughout. Quite pleased to be 35sec ahead of Amelia since she definitely had me for pace at Culbin a few weeks back in terrain.

Orienteering race (SOUL 9 Lanark) 34:34 [4] 5.71 km (6:03 / km) +75m 5:41 / km

Made wrong shoe choice - studs would have been better. Misinterpreted (if I'm being generous) the final details thinking we didnt have any terrain.
Good race - fair bit of route choice - didnt get all of them right - should hhve kept out of the terrain at 2 and 8. Wasnt thinking quite ahead enough at the high St closes - got them OK but poss a bit hesitant in cirlce when they didnt appear as planned. Need to check ym CD closer. Also caught out slightly by the control immediately after as didnt see the main trap and had to veer back onto main st after exiting north.

7th is a decent Mvet result for me and only 2min behind the youngster Al D although 8min behind Paddy W. Got revenge on Andy Mac for last night too. Beat JOhn Robertson from STAG too - cf last weeks result at Penicuik.

1147 BOF ranking points. Best score of the year so far.

Orienteering race (Tinto Twin night) 1:15:00 [4] 5.0 km (15:00 / km) +60m 14:09 / km
shoes: icebugs

Little bit left to 1 and couldnt see it agasint the field stubble. Made first error of night by continuing on over next rise before turning back and finding it in the reentrant where I'd been shining my torch.

Pretty good then until 8 when made some sort of 180 error and got a bit lost. 10min for 150m!

FOund 9 in a patch of nettles and on to 10 another 150m control - couldnt find it although was convinced I'd found the feature. Map didnt make sense - no thickets in adjacent field (presumably harvested the willow) fence wasnt right (showed gate but was more a differnt sort of fence) and couldnt see pylon on map (it wasnt) and the ride as shown was much wider on the ground.
Tried relocating a couple of times but was starting to worry I was off the map as it was near the edge. Then another runner came through and shot off into the willow thicket (it turns out erroneously) so confidently that I lost heart and was convinced I wasnt wherer I though I was.
Trotted back to the finish missing 10-12.
Turns out 10 was in the wrong place at the next ditch bend 100m, or so along. Everyone else had just continued on to see it - I wasnt confident enough to do so. Lesson learned.
