O-MEET race 40:00 [3] **
shoes: ASIC GT 2000

did the long course, head and heart really not in it. Legs were dead and really came out for the new map and to support the club. should have done the short course but it is what it is.

O-MEET race (Rogain) 6:00:00 [4] ****
shoes: Xodus 4.0

Frozen Beaver, wasn't frozen, weather was probably as good as it gets for central Ohio in early February. good course and masterfully organized, as an event you really couldn't ask for more. The lodge is excellent, the food was great.

My results on the other hand were abysmal. I struggled to get the map scale right in my head, and it took me some time to get into the map and start to hit some controls. Add to that some really poor route choices relative to the terrain and the flora, (I don't think you could have more briars if you were farming them commercially) and it led up to a pretty sorry day. I learned some lessons,

Go for a few easy close in controls first to get a feel for the map scale. I used to struggle with the map scale of the O maps because I was used to working with 1/50000 and 1/24000 maps, now it is the other way around apparently

Ambitious walks across almost frozen beaver pond outflows is not the way no matter how easy it looks. I also got "cliffed out" once, thought I could drop into a reentrant only to discover a drop that was too high to get down forcing a detour.

Trekking poles do more that take the strain off of your knees they can also help battle briars.

Some good things, I think I am moving around the terrain better, Legs held up for the whole 6 hours mostly walking, I would like to do 8 hours mostly running but that will come in time. I haven't been working on running, only trying to keep some base of aerobic fitness so I think I can get there.

Need to do more of these, I really enjoy the Rogaine/Adventure race thing

Travel day, wanted to travel to Ohio for the Frozen beaver but work was crazy so I got a late start and traveled only about half way then stopped for the night.
