Wednesday Apr 26

Running Smooth 20:00 [2]
Warm-up before training.
Orienteering City/Park (wet) 17:04 [4]
WET at Minoru Park, Richmond. Fast and furious sprint style race. Staggered starts. Had a clean run. Ended up with the exact same time as Thomas.
Running Smooth 20:00 [2]
Picking up the flags.

Tuesday Apr 25

Running Smooth 20:00 [2]
Warm up before intervals.
Intervals Flat 15:00 [5]

Monday Apr 24

Running Smooth 55:00 [3]
Run in Pacific Spirit Park with Mattias from Switzerland.

Wednesday Apr 19

Running Smooth 10:00 [2]
Warm-up before WET.
Orienteering City/Park (wet) 32:58 [4]
WET at Acadia, out at UBC. Race started with a score-O section. Not sure what was the best route, but I don't think I took it. On the point-to-point course it was me chasing Thomas again and he stayed ahead of me all the way in. My legs actually felt great, but my mind was somewhere else.

Not sure what my time was exactly. Something 30-ish.
Running Smooth 15:00 [2]
Cool-down. Picking up flags.

Monday Apr 17

Orienteering Forest race (middle) 56:03 [4] 7.62 km (7:21 / km)
C-meet on the last day of the camp. This was on a part of the map that we haven't used much for training. I felt very motivated to do well and give Brian a fight for the win. Map and route here. Had a very strong race. To control 2 I dropped too low and saw the road, lost 30 seconds to Brian on this leg. Also was slow and unsure to 7 and at 19 I just couldn't find the boulder. Ran right past it several times, but it was hidden behind some denser woods. Was almost 5 minutes faster than Brian, but he had to search for 16 which first was misplaced and then moved to the correct spot. He lost 2 minutes there. Results here
Running Rough 20:00 [2]
Picked up some controls from the race.

Sunday Apr 16

Orienteering Forest 50:00 [5]
Otervals at Knife Creek. My group was with Adrian and Kevin Astridge. We had so much fun! The lengths of the forks worked perfectly for us and we kept seeing each other on the legs and pushed hard to be back first. I pretty much ran as hard as I could, taking huge risks in the navigation, but only blew a few of the 30 controls. Felt great physically.
C • camp 2
Running Rough 30:00 [2]
Jogging between otervals, discussing the previous one.
Orienteering Forest 45:00 [3]
Placed controls and SI units for the route choice exercise at Bond Lake.
Running Rough 15:00 [2]
Control pickup.
Note
Brian May put in a very impressive effort on the route choice course. He started late, after taking care of the kids when Abbi ran, and he only had 40 minutes before the SI units turned off. He came in under 34! Results here

Saturday Apr 15

Orienteering Forest 45:00 [3]
Placing controls for the tempo change exercise.
Running Rough 45:00 [2]
Running around in the terrain, making sure everyone was doing ok and then picking up the controls.
Orienteering Forest 36:00 [4]
Star exercise on the southern part of the Knife Creek map. Tried to push hard. Felt a bit like my breathing couldn't keep up to the speed, but I felt pretty good technically.
Running Rough 30:00 [2]
Shadowed first Charlotte on one loop of the star and then Angela Pearson on one loop.
Running Rough 20:00 [2]
Picked up some of the controls from the star.

Friday Apr 14

Event: "Spring into Spring" Orienteering Camp

Wednesday Apr 12

Running Smooth 20:00 [2]
Warm-up before the training. Wanted to try out my knee. Swelling is down and the bruise has a slight yellow tint. Still very sore when I touch it. When I was warm, it didn't hurt at all running slow, but higher impact hurt a little.
Orienteering City/Park (wet) 23:20 [4] 4.59 km (5:05 / km)
WET at Central Park. Mass strart with two different courses. Was on the same one as Thomas. He made a mistake on 2, so I was ahead for awhile until he caught up at 7. He was running faster than me and I kept picking different routes, once I saw which way he went. He only picked the slower route one time...

Sunday Apr 9

Orienteering Forest race (middle) 48:25 [4] 6.51 km (7:26 / km)
(injured)
Race on the Silver Valley West map, in connection with a Cadet/Scout event GVOC put on. A fun course with lots of controls and change of direction. A fair bit of trail running, but hard to avoid in this area. I didn't have any mistakes really, except taking non-optimal routes to a few control, but I know the area by heart, having made the map. (How many times have I written this in the log?)

Hit my knee hard on a log, above the knee cap so I think it'll be ok, but it hurts surprisingly much now. Not running the next couple of days, for sure.

Saturday Apr 8

Note
Spent all day on the Aspen Grove map, which will be used for Sage Stomp this year, making updates for the recent logging in the area. Hours of hiking in the snow, a very long day.

Thursday Apr 6

Badminton 50:00 [2]
Badminton with Chi Ho and Vincent. We played some two against one stuff and two singles. Single against Chi Ho is the most fun. I have to work really hard against him to stand a chance.

Wednesday Apr 5

Orienteering City/Park (wet) 28:00 [4]
Amazing spring day at Jericho and a nice WET on the map I made exactly a year ago. Vegitation here is crazy, so already lots of changes in the terrain. Maybe took it a bit easy at the start, but sped up a bit as I caught up with Thomas.
Running Smooth 20:00 [2]
Warm-up before training and also run back to my apartment.

Tuesday Apr 4

Intervals Hills 15:00 [5]
Intervals on the stairs up from the beach at UBC. I got brutalized! I did the first one way too fast and then had bad lactic on all the rest. Maybe if I had done them at 2:15 I would have been able to be consistent.

Slow run in Pacific Spirit.
Core & Strength 36:00 [2]
Gotta make my tummy look sexier to impress Louise!
C • Sexy Tummy 9

Sunday Apr 2

Running Rough 1:30:00 [3]
Run on the Baden Powell from Grouse to Mountain Hwy, the road just above the Lynn Valley ravine, and then back to Grouse. It's a very bumpy trail, great for orienteers, and this stretch is more undulating and not too steep.

Saturday Apr 1

Running Smooth 1:02:00 [3]
Run with Meghan M in Pacific Spirit.
Orienteering City/Park 19:47 [4]
Did the second sprint course from the event GVOC put on when I was in Florida. Louise shadowed me for parts of it. I got lost on some trails in the forested bit and I also never ran to the right spot for control 5.
Orienteering City/Park 15:00 [2]
Warm-up and cool-down for the sprint training.
Core & Strength 30:00 [1]
Did some weights and core at the Dunbar community centre weight room with Louise.
