Wednesday Nov 29

Orienteering City/Park 40:00 [3]
Placing controls for the WET in deep snow!

Friday Nov 24

XC Skate 1:00:00 [2]
Lots of snow on the local mountains, unusually early. Cypress has not opened for night skiing yet, so we went up and skied in the dark with headlamps. Perfect winter conditions! Was up there for 90 minutes, but only count 60, since some time was spent just standing around or moving very slowly.

Wednesday Nov 22

Orienteering City/Park (wet) 31:23 [4]
WET at Trout Lake. Up there in the top 5 of wettest WETs. It was cold and it was raining really hard. Warm-up and cool-down was not an option...

Intervals Hills 15:00 [5]

Running Smooth 15:00 [2]
Cool-down.

Tuesday Nov 14

Running Smooth 30:00 [2]
Warm-up before intervals. A long warm-up, because Thomas and I miscommunicated about exactly where to meet.
Intervals Hills 13:00 [4]
Stair intervals, up from the beach to UBC.
Running Smooth 20:00 [2]
Down the stairs and cool-down.

Sunday Nov 12

Orienteering City/Park race (long) 1:35:00 [4] 14.1 km (6:44 / km)
Long distance city orienteering on the North Shore. Long legs with route choice through residential areas. Easy to underestimate the need to navigate all the time. The street network is like a labyrinth and the penalty for taking the wrong route can be huge. You have to plan ahead and decide on your route before you start the next leg. There is also a lot of climb on this map. A tough race.

I didn't make more than a few minutes mistakes and I measured different route choices after the race and I think I picked the fastest ones. My route was about 19.4 km long! I'm not in great shape and my legs were dead stiff the last kilometer. I also got pretty cold as the rain was very heavy all day.

Wednesday Nov 8

Orienteering City/Park (wet) 22:10 [3]
WET at Minoru Park. 2 loops in a small, but nice, park. Didn't run hard, my hip really hurt after the H2H relay last weekend.
Running Smooth 15:00 [2]
Cool-down.

Saturday Nov 4

Running Smooth race (running) 1:08:00 [4] 15 km (4:32 / km) vdot: 46.2
The Haney 2 Harrison road running relay. This is the only road running race I do. Lots of fun following your team along during the day. However, this year it was raining buckets... The relay has 8 legs and is 100 km in total. Some people do it solo... but they are all put back in the asylum directly after the race.

I ran the 3rd leg this year for the GVOC Salal Bashers, just like I did last year. This leg starts with a steep climb the first 1500 metres, then it is slightly uphill until 7 km and then slightly downhill the last half home. I'm still at the tail end of this cold and was debating if I would run at all, but in the end I decided to do it, because we didn't really have anyone else. I took it kind of slow and careful and ran 68 minutes, but still felt pretty stiff at the end. Last year I ran 58 minutes, which I was very happy with. Our team ended up with a good finish in the top 25, out of around 300 teams, with a time of 7 hours and 11 minutes.

Wednesday Nov 1

Orienteering City/Park (wet) 20:00 [2]
(sick)
A slow jog at the WET at Musqeam park. Again, it was a one-man relay with 3 loops. I did the first two, with a stuffed up nose, but not feeling too terrible.
