 | Hiking 3:00:00 [2] | |
| |
| Did a 12 hour hike to Coliseum Mountain from Andrea's house. First 8 km is very gradual uphill along Lynn Creek, then we turned straight up the mountain for a 1000 meter climb in 4 km. Most of the way, we used cramp-ons and ice axes. I'm logging this part of the hike, because it was a real hard work out. Came back home after it got dark and I'm really tired today...

| Placing and picking up flags for a test run on one of my new map on the north shore. |

| WET at Pacific Spirit Park on a course by Gar. Started with a box and then mostly a trail run. Not a lot of route choice. I ran carefully to test my knee. I didn't feel any pain during the run, but I can still feel a hint of something being different in the right knee. Hopefully this will go away in another week. |

| Short cool-down, a cold rainy evening. |

 | Running Rough 1:50:00 [2] | |
| |
| Long slow run from Andrea's house to Norvan Falls and back. A section of forest close to the falls was very open, with boulders and subtle contour features, and not too steep. |

| (injured) |
| Ever since the ride on Andrea's bike on Wednesday, my right knee has been a bit painful. During the run today I felt a slight discomfort, but nothing too bad. However, now a few hours after the run, the knee is rather stiff and hurts every time I bend it. |

| Training at Stanley Park. Tried to push hard, and it felt pretty good. Starting to know every corner of this sprint map now, so it was mostly a run. |
 | Biking 55:00 [3] | |
| |
| Rode Andrea's bike home from the training. It's more than 300 meter climb from Stanley Park up to her place at the top of Mountain Hwy. A pretty hard workout, especially since the bike is way too small for me. |

| In Montreal for 2 days for business. I brought my running shoes, just in case, but right now there is a full snow storm outside... |

| Did course 4 at the Spring Ramble event for scouts and cadets at Maple Ridge. A new area I have not been to before. A very rough sketchy map with only a few hours of fieldwork. I knew before hand that the map would be pretty bad, but was looking forward to checking out some new terrain. Most controls were kind of bingo, but they were close to roads or trails and I never had too much trouble. Lost 2 mintes at the second control searching around. Managed to not lose time at 4, which was misplaced, by just sort of spotting the flag in the distant... anyway, I had some fun. |

| Wet at Deer Lake. Control picking at the beginning, then in the middle mostly running across the grass fields and marshes and the last bit was control picking again. Some good route choice legs. My legs felt stiff and I felt slow. Two minutes behind Thomas this time. |

 | Running Rough 1:24:00 [2] | |
| |
| Long run with Thomas around Burnaby Mountain. We ran across the hill and down to the lower mountain bike trails on the east side, then all the way up to the top again and back. Lots of climb on this one. |

| Warm-up. |
 | Orienteering Forest (race) 47:36 [4] 6.4 km (7:26 / km) | |
| |
| Vico event at Royal Roads. This is an area that has some really nice woods and the course was fast and fun, without any bingo controls. Had some small issues on several legs. To number 2, I tried to run across a field, but it had too much low bush, so had to turn back into the forest. Lost at least 30 seconds here. To number 5, I took a bad route choice, low and to the right, was zig-zagging a lot and lost time. The best choice here would have been to stay high and to the left. Again to 6, I took the low route to the right, down a big re-entrant, and again the best would have been to stay high and more left. After that, I had a pretty much clean race.
Thomas beat me almost 5 minutes. Most of that was up to control 6. |

| Training at Acadia again. Fun and twisty course, set by Benoit. |

 | Running Rough 1:40:00 [3] | |

| Long run in Pacific Spirit with John Markez and Thomas. Did some bits in the nicer parts of the forest off the trails. My legs felt good today. I guess 8 days of complete rest helped... |

| Mapping from noon until 8 pm. Had planned for a morning run, but slept too long. But I think I needed it after the Alabama trip, which featured several nights with very little sleep. |
