Hiking up to Coliseum with a big pack. Hard workout.

Wednesday Sep 19

Orienteering City/Park (wet) 20:48 [4] 3.8 km (5:28 / km)
First WET of the fall season. Thomas had updated the QE map with the new park on top of the reservoir. Map is much better now, more dynamic, more choices. Fun!

Sunday Sep 16

Orienteering City/Park (race) 15:47 [4] 2.8 km (5:38 / km)
GVOC sprint champs at Ambleside on a new map. Some fun stuff the first half of the course, then more just running. Well, I defended my club sprint champ title :)

Orienteering Forest 1:00:00 [3]
Placing and picking up controls for the GVOC middle champs.

Sunday Sep 9

Orienteering City/Park 14:56 [4] 2.55 km (5:51 / km)
Test run of the M21E sprint course for the Western Canadian Champs. Knew the course, of course, but ran a bit slower, trying to simulate reading the map and making decisions. This will not be an easy course. Don't think anyone can do it under 14.

Orienteering Forest 4:00:00 [2]
Checking all control sites for the Western Canadian Champs Long course. Some running, some walking. I'm excited about the courses. I think it will be a fun event for the runners.
Orienteering City/Park 1:00:00 [2]
Checking all control sites for the Sprint. This will be pretty tricky!

Monday Sep 3

Orienteering Forest (race) 33:58 [4] 4.5 km (7:33 / km)
Barebones relay. Ran leg D, which first had a middle distance course. Started second, just before a small pack, which all had the shorter fork in the beginning. Was just ahead of them on a very difficult leg, compass along an indistinct slope. I missed it by a minute, slightly too high, and they passed me. Saw them again on the hill up to 7, but then missed 9 and I never saw anyone. In the end, came in third. Only Ted had passed me.
Orienteering Forest (race) 8:33 [4] 1.6 km (5:21 / km)
Last leg of the relay was a short sprint. I went out in second place alone and raced a clean race by myself. A very amazingly fun competition!

Sunday Sep 2

Orienteering Forest (race) 9:42 [4] 1.6 km (6:04 / km)
Prologue sprint at the Canmore Olympic ski trails. Very unusual map, entirely covered with a maze of trails. A pretty easy course, but hilly. Apart from a small hesitation to the first control, I had a clean race.

Orienteering Forest (race) 24:23 [4] 3.1 km (7:52 / km)
Chase at the trails. Started third, 24 seconds behind Eric Bone and 11 behind Alaric. Caught up and punched first at the third control as they both missed it. However, they got it right after me and they were stronger than me in the very steep terrain. Eric disappeared, but I kept up to Alaric and punched together on the second last, but Alaric was faster then me down the very steep slope to the finish.

Saturday Sep 1

Orienteering Forest (race) 1:00:58 [4] 7.2 km (8:28 / km)
Longish race at Barrier Lake. Great map and great tough terrain with lots of contour detail. Made a small mistake on the first control, but compensated with a good leg to the very difficult third. Then missed 4 with a minute in a parallel error. Did really well from there on. At the end 18 was misplaced, but I saw the control and got it. Lost a bit of time on the next one as I didn't start from the correct spot. Fun race!

Orienteering City/Park (race) 2:05 [5] 0.4 km (5:12 / km)
Super sprint at the YMCA camp. Short and fast!
Orienteering Forest (race) 21:26 [4] 3.2 km (6:42 / km)
Night-O on the map around the camp. Attempted to go straight to 3, which was silly. Got too much to the right and had a hard time to relocate in the dark. Should have taken the trail instead. After that caught up to Odd and MarkG. Passed them on the last few controls.
