Monday Mar 26

Note
Working with an install at a saw mill close to Tuscaloosa, Alabama. Getting no training done for sure...

Saturday Mar 24

Running Rough 1:25:00 [3]
From Andrea's house, along Baden Powell, to a bit past Mosquito Creek and then back. Legs felt heavy and weak.

Wednesday Mar 21

Running Smooth 20:00 [2]
Warm-up/cool-down.
Orienteering City/Park (wet) 37:00 [4] 6.6 km (5:36 / km)
WET in New Westminster on a winter like cold and rainy evening. This was on the old map that covers a lot of the neighborhoods around Queen's Park itself. I kept up a little bit better to Thomas' pace today, he was still in sight two thirds into the course.

Monday Mar 19

Running Rough 45:00 [2]
Warm-up/cool-down at the beach.
Intervals Hills 12:00 [5]
Up the UBC stairs.

Running Smooth 45:00 [2]
Warm-up/cool-down.
Orienteering City/Park 53:20 [4] 6.7 km (7:58 / km)
Had not planned to go to Victoria this weekend, but changed the plan on Friday evening, when Andrea said she would like to visit the area.

The race was at the university campus, and mostly in the forest around it. I must say I really enjoy these races that Vico puts on. It's great to go away somewhere and get the feeling of a real race that you did not plan yourself. Sometimes though, the course planning is not very high quality, since most of the members are recreational. This time there were a few really good legs, but also some pretty terrible bingo controls. And one control was also misplaced.

I lost around 10 minutes, half of that time was my own mistakes and the other half was searching for crazy bingo controls in dark green and the misplaced one. Thomas was 10 minutes faster than me, but had 5 minutes of mistakes himself. He is flying now!

Thursday Mar 15

Running Smooth 37:00 [2]
Warm-up/cool-down.
Orienteering Forest 50:00 [3]
Night orienteering at Watershed on the small sprint map. Thomas planned forked Farsta loops. The orienteering was fun, but insanely difficult.

Wednesday Mar 14

Orienteering City/Park 30:00 [3]
Setting controls for the WET.
Running Smooth 30:00 [2]
Picking up the pin flags.

Tuesday Mar 13

Running Smooth 5:00 [2]
Warm-up.
Orienteering City/Park 47:44 [4] 8.2 km (5:49 / km)
Course at Champlain Heights. Idea was to run at race pace. I pushed really hard. The course was simple, it had some route choice, but nothing was difficult about the nav. Thomas was 4 minutes faster than me. Wow, he is fast now...

Monday Mar 12

Running Smooth 30:00 [2]
Warm-up/cool-down.
Intervals Hills 12:00 [5]
Intervals at the usual stairs at UBC. Did 5 repeats and felt really good. Managed to double step the lower part consistently and then keep a decent pace the rest of the way. I'm improving.

All I need now is some real orienteering... I'm desperate. Maybe I'll fly to Detroit for the US Team Trials?

Sunday Mar 11

Running Rough 1:59:00 [2]
Run in Lynn Valley in torrential downpour... the river was absolutely in a rage! The upper trail was basically a continuous stream of ankle deep cold water. We had to get through many overflowing streams that came down the ravine, crossing our trail. One stream crossing had a sign that said "Debris torrent, do not cross during floods!" which we happily ignored... no one was swept down into the river, but our feet got numb from the icy water. Towards the end we were all in a pretty miserable state of wet and frozen limbs.

This will be a run to remember...

Saturday Mar 10

Hiking 1:00:00 [1]
Snowshoeing up at Seymour in a rain storm...

Friday Mar 9

Running Smooth 31:00 [3]
Short run before dinner.

Wednesday Mar 7

Running Rough 25:00 [2]
Warm-up for training. Ran down the stairs to the beach.
Orienteering City/Park (wet) 29:09 [4] 4.9 km (5:57 / km)
WET at UBC. I lost a bunch of time trying to find a trail from control 1 to 2. After that there was a few kilometers of easy orienteering on streets. My legs felt very tired and stiff. The last part of the course was more fun, with lots of controls and intense navigation.
C • Trail 2
Running Smooth 30:00 [2]
Cool-down. Picking up flags and running back to my car.

Monday Mar 5

Running Rough 40:00 [2]
Warm-up, cool-down and run in between intervals.
Intervals Hills 11:00 [5]
Intervals up the stairs that go up from Lynn Valley, on the Baden Powell up towards Mountain Hwy. These are shorter than the ones out at UBC. I did 7 repeats:

1:35
1:31
1:34
1:37
1:29
1:30
1:30

Saturday Mar 3

Running Rough 1:56:00 [2]
Long run with Louise, from Mountain Hwy over to the Grouse Grind and then back.

Thursday Mar 1

XC Skate 1:25:00 [2]
Skiing at Hollyburn. Great night up there! Amazing amounts of snow, really cold and good tracks.
