Jog in Lynn Valley with Andrea and dogs.

Thursday Oct 30

Running Rough 2:35:00 [2] 15.7 km (9:52 / km) +950m 7:35 / km
Jog/run on the Howe Sound Crest Trail, from Cypress Bowl to close to Mount Unnecessary. Slow trail, roots, rocks and steep. Some nice views of the Lions and Howe Sound.

Wednesday Oct 29

Orienteering City/Park (wet) 54:48 [3] 7.4 km (7:24 / km)
Very good training by Jaroslav in Queen Elizabeth Park, a double-memory-score-O. A few copies of the master map was available at the start area. You had to memorize the location of controls, go find them, then come back and memorize some more. The special thing was that at each control there was a little map snipped with a control marked. You had to also memorize these and draw them onto a blank map at the start area. Thus the _double_ memory part. On the top of this there was also a bonus sticker at each control for the first person to reach that point.

This training really forced you to focus hard all the time. A great way to get something exciting from an overused map.

Running Rough 1:15:00 [2] 9.2 km (8:09 / km) +450m 6:33 / km
Jog from Cypress Bowl parking lot, on the Baden Powell. Up to Black Mountain and over to the Eagle Bluffs Lookout. Some steep climbs and very muddy trails at the top. Very nice and warm evening.

Sunday Oct 26

Running Rough 45:00 [2]
Slow run, in the sand and rocks, from Spanish banks to stairs at Museum of Anthropology.
Intervals Hills 10:00 [5]
Stair intervals. Just tried to keep a pace that I could survive for a few repeats. Not very good times, but not absolutely terrible either.

Running Smooth 20:00 [2]
Warm-up/cool-down.
Orienteering City/Park (wet) 42:06 [4] 9.3 km (4:32 / km)
WET at BCIT campus. Excellent course by Lehel with intense route choice all the way (and a long course too).

Monday Oct 20

Running Smooth 1:00:00 [2]
Jog around the area around Confederation Park in north Burnaby together with John Rance. Definitely good enough to map for WET, but not sure if it'll do for a setup/chase format for the sprint camp. Maybe, it's on the edge.

Sunday Oct 19

Running Smooth 10:00 [2]
Warm-up.
Orienteering City/Park 45:11 [4] 8.3 km (5:27 / km)
Run the Campus at UBC. Long distance sprint orienteering :) Did well in the Acadia area in the beginning of the course and then the course turned into more running with route choice. Didn't make any mistakes really, at most some slightly sub-optimal routes. Faded in my running after 2/3, stiff legs and a hurting left hip.

Saturday Oct 18

Running Smooth 39:00 [2]
Slow run in Kits, from Arbutus and out to Jericho and back. The calf is fine now, but there is clearly something in my left hip. Kind of a stinging pain once in a while, that I felt at the WET on Wednesday. Also my muscles in the left hip area got crazy sore after the WET and I can still feel it now.

Wednesday Oct 15

Orienteering City/Park (wet) 31:00 [3] 4.6 km (6:44 / km)
WET at Byrne Creek. 3 loops with some good route choice. Ran the first two loops to test out my calf. I did not feel anything, so it should be good to go again. Hips felt kind of stiff. Haven't trained much lately so better start up carefully.

Thursday Oct 9

Note
Last day at work today. Cleaned out the desk after 6 years at LMI.

Now off to Mexico for a Quebec wedding!

Wednesday Oct 1

Orienteering City/Park (wet) 30:00 [2]
(injured)
Was jogging the course at Musqueam Park (on a mirrored map!) to test out my calf. It felt ok in the beginning, but then I started to feel it more and I headed back home. Not healed yet...
