Running Smooth 10:00 [2]
Warm-up before the race.
Orienteering Forest race (middle) 53:47 [4] 5.7 km (9:26 / km)
Local race at Rice Lake on the new map the club payed Louise to make. I had been looking forward to this one for a while. An actual forest map, which I didn't make, with lots of nice detail. Of course, running is slow in any forest here, but there are many nice sections around Rice Lake.

I took it like a serious race and I felt good all the way, but it wasn't perfect, when analyzing afterwards. The route choice leg to 5, I went around the big hill and out to the trail, which I think was a good choice. However, out of 4 I ran too much to the south and I'm sure that cost me a minute. I also lost one minute at 12, my only problem with an actual control. Out of 14 I should have gone straight north out to the road, but I ran almost straight east and I think this cost me another minute. Thomas's total time at 12 was about 30 seconds faster than mine, but then he made some mistakes and I was 5 minutes faster in the end.

Orienteering City/Park 2:25:00 [2]
Long run across 8 different maps! Andrea planned some controls on each map. She was on her bike and would meet up with me at finish of each section and give me the next map. Start at Jericho, then the northern part of Pacific Spirit, down to the beach and around out to UBC. Ran up the steep hill and then did a 10 minute sprint loop on the new Anthropology map. After that followed another 10 minute sprint at the campus and then some trails around Triumf. Then a section across to Camosun and then a 10 minute "sprint" on that map, by now my legs were pretty stiff... Last section was down to Jericho again. Fun!

Running Smooth 10:00 [2]
Warm-up for training.
Orienteering City/Park (wet) 29:26 [4] 5.7 km (5:10 / km)
WET at Vanier. Gar set a simpler runner's course on purpose because he expected some people to come from his running club. This park doesn't have much in it to create much navigational challenge anyway... still fun to run around with a map though, as always.

Monday Oct 16

Running Smooth 1:02:00 [3]
Run along the beach out towards UBC, around the perimeter on Marine Dr, then across the campus and back home along 10th.
