Orienteering Forest 1:12:42 [4] 11.34 km (6:25 / km) +366m 5:31 / km

Sage Stomp Long. Started well on the first two controls, but could not read the map approaching control 3. The print was not the best and at 1:15000 the tiny depression on top of a small ridge did not really show. Missed it slightly to the right and had to come back. 45 sec lost. Slow on the big climb up to 4. Got chased by a scared dog leaving 6, which pushed me off the direction, but I recovered ok. Little hook attacking 9. Ran really aggressively downhill the open meadows to 11, pure pleasure! Continued with nice flow until 15, which was on an old barb wire fence. Only problem was where I hit the fence, there was no fence... so I ran too far and got rather confused. Had to come back lower on the hill to find the fence line and then try again. Lost almost 2 min. Then it was good again the rest of the way. 6 min behind Thomas, which was ok. Both Graeme and Eric Bone beat me by a few seconds. Happy to see Graeme with such a good time!

My achilles hurt more in this run...

Event: Sage Stomp

12 PM

Orienteering Forest 47:01 [4] 6.44 km (7:18 / km) +250m 6:07 / km

Sage Stomp Middle on the new McQueen Lake map. A bit uncertain to the first control, trying to figure out what the veg boundaries meant. Slow climbing up to 2, but ok on the steep downhill to 3. Took the road around to the left to 4 to be able to read ahead a little bit. Had a good flow from this point all the way to the second last control, though I had to walk all the steep uphills. Unfortunately I completely lost it at the end. Trying to find the seasonal stream instead of just going on a bearing and reading the contours. When I relocated I still looked for the control in the wrong reentrant. Lost almost 3 min... gah. Achilles mildly sore, but did not affect me.
