Orienteering Forest 1:02:55 [4] 8.43 km (7:28 / km) +365m 6:08 / km
14c

Mass start at Lord Hill. Took off with some fast runners, plus Eric B, Will E and Nikolay. Missed the first control and the little hook lost me 1:09 to Eric and I was in the middle of the pack. Amazing how fast time goes when you miss. Then it was Will, Nikolay and myself chasing Eric and we eventually caught up by 4. Somehow Nikolay confused himself on the trails leaving 4 and now it was Will and myself trying to hang on to Eric who was clearly stronger and kept pulling away in the jungle. To 7 I went left and lost 40 seconds and then I could only see Will in the distance leaving 8. Tried to push a bit harder on the trail run to 9 and when I came in towards the clearing I saw Eric and Will leaving. Again, coming down to 10 I saw Will punch in the distance and then I went left to 11 all around the trails. Coming into 11 there was Will coming from the other direction and we punched together. On the way to 12 there was some dark green and I tried to take a higher line to the left to avoid it, but that was a big mistake. Suddenly I was 40 seconds back of Will again and could not close it. Kind of gave up pushing on the last control and the finish. Really fun race!

Running Rough 49:43 [3] 8.32 km (5:58 / km) +364m 4:54 / km

Run from the hotel up to Ecola State Park. It had been raining hard in the morning, but suddenly it cleared up. Amazing trail up on the bluffs above the Pacific.
