orienteering 1:04:37 [5] 8.1 km (7:59 / km) +245m 6:56 / km

OK Nuts trophy, Winterfold, Short Brown.

Not feeling very enthusiastic when I started, didn't make much sense of #1 but spotted the kite from some distance away. From there on it was very easy orienteering, you just had to choose a route that minimized time spent in the terrain. It was very heavy going with brashings and undergrowth everywhere. I caught Chris Hooker at #7, then every leg after that he pulled away from me a little bit and then slowed down into the control allowing me to nearly catch back up. This went on until the last leg which was a straight run up a steepish track for 200m or so and he took half a minute out of me. As did Evie on the same leg. I was a bit dead by that point.

My result was fairly typical I suppose for an easy southern area, 9 minutes behind John Duckworth, 5 behind Nigel Bunn.

A bit sore from last night's effort, muddy and slippery in the woods, held up at the ring road. Cold and sunny - there was even snow on the ground on Adel Moors. Plodding.

To Horse, flat out. Stymied by technology failure after about 10 minutes of running. Maybe the little battery sign was trying to tell me something.

Anyway, after 8.5 minutes I was about 5 seconds down on last week, so probably 12:thirty-something.

running warm up/down 26:30 [2] 2.5 mi (10:36 / mi)

Chevin from Station Road, Otley. In the dark. I didn't get chance to charge my headlamp up and it was getting a bit dim when I was on the way down.
