Sunday Jun 13 #

orienteering 1:19:44 [3] 6.1 km (13:04 / km)

CLOK middle distance, Hutton Mulgrave and Skelder, Black course.

This seemed like a very long middle distance. Lots of undergrowth meant progress was very slow and very hard work, and ferns and/or bracken obscured much of the terrain and some of the controls. The first bit of the course on the motorbike track was trivial but baking hot. As expected I made a mess of the first one in the woods, but only by a minute or so. It was actually one of my better splits. Most of the controls it was a case of getting yourself near enough and then looking really hard for the si box on top of the cane, because that is the only bit that stuck up above the ferns. I managed that reasonably successfully until 24, where I must have been within a few metres of it but never saw it. I wasn't so sure of my position so I wandered off rather than looking really hard for the control. I eventually returned 5 minutes later and the control wasn't even all that hidden.

Everybody made similar mistakes. Quentin lost over 10 minutes on one control - enough for me to be ahead of him until my mistake. Aidan Rigby lost the lead with a 5 minute mistake at 25. All good fun.

Saturday Jun 12 #

running 51:14 [3] 5.3 mi (9:40 / mi)

Lindley Bridge to Dob Park Bridge and back again. ok I suppose, just plodding along. Hot.

Friday Jun 11 #

running 52:56 [3] 5.1 mi (10:23 / mi)

Steady run up to Slabbering Baby. Feeling a bit better.

Thursday Jun 10 #

running 29:40 [3] 2.6 mi (11:25 / mi)

Meanwood and Hollies. Started off very slow, went over my ankle for about the hundredth time in the last 2 weeks, but this time quite bad, hobbled for a bit, dribbled to the finish. Pathetic, feeble, hopeless.

Wednesday Jun 9 #

running 41:05 [3] 4.6 mi (8:56 / mi)

Abbey. Hot. Going better than at the weekend but still slow.
