Sunday May 19 #

orienteering 52:42 [3] 4.7 km (11:13 / km) +270m 8:43 / km

Lakes weekend middle, Colonel's Drive, Brown.

I was happier with this than yesterday, no stupid routes, but I found the last couple of steep climbs a real struggle. I more or less conked out on the climb up to #17 and had to zig zag my way up it.

I was caught at #9 by Rachel Duckworth and Simon Hunter. I thought they would just run away from me but Rachel was making a few errors and Simon wasn't really going any faster than I was. I was still just about at the front of the pack at #14 but couldn't keep up on the climb to #15, and I lost a few seconds there anyway with a dodgy line.

Turns out Simon had lost 10 minutes before he appeared behind me.

24th out of 70-odd.

Saturday May 18 #

orienteering 1:03:16 [3] 4.8 km (13:11 / km) +320m 9:53 / km

Lakes weekend long race, Holme Fell, Blue.

Found all the controls without any problem but did some dodgy routes. I was mostly looking to make life easy for myself and not get into any difficulties but I might have overdone it a bit, particularly on the long leg where I took quite a roundabout route that looks a bit odd now.

Not a bad result, 9th out of 80-odd on the course but 13 minutes behind Charlie. Would have been happy with 3 mins quicker and at the front of the pack of M55s/M60s rather than at the back of them.
