Orienteering race 1:42:49
DM-lang (außer Konkurrenz) 6th place
16700m, climb 480m (2.9%)
Reasonably happy (first and only "serious" race of the year...). I had prepared fairly well and my shape felt good. Good course in fairly interesting terrain (by german standards), mostly great visibility.
Decided to run hard from the start and see how I felt. Not fully focused initially, problem understanding the map, what was up and down (not been on a 1:15000 for more than 1 year I think).
#1 one valley/reentrant to far~30s
#3 too far to the left ~20s
#4 confused ~15s
#7 Green x, glanced on the clue sheet not a tree, knew the symbol wasn't used for a tree like in the US, still run to where I thought it was (~5m away) and looked for the most distinct tree, run to it, no control, ran to a new AP, back to my original spot, saw the control behind the rootstock... ~60s.
11-17 slowed down a little bit, was worried how much was left after the map exchange
#13 Lost some focused, not the best route choice, headed 90deg off, took the wrong trail... ~60s
#15 over the highest peak instead of the saddle (longer and 15m extra climb)... ~20s
17-22 At map exchange saw the rest was manageable, increased the pace again
#22 Ran around far to the right in light green to save 5m of climb... ~40s
23-28 Got tired and had to struggle to keep the pace and the focus
#23 Over the same peak (#13) again instead of saddle... ~20s.
Really happy with my physical performance, but too many small stupid mistakes (considering the visibility), still glad it didn't turn into something bigger, but I would have been really happy with 3min less of mistakes (then I would have reached my tough goal of <100min (<6min/km)).
