Thought I was in good shape and was looking forward to a long hard and fairly technical course. Unfortunately, It wasn't really the last at least, with way to much road running for my liking. When I still made a lot of mistakes I knew it wasn't going to be a good race.
My preparations on race day was good and I felt focused at start, but once I got the map I had a hard time getting into it and the right mindset. Spent way to much time initially trying to figure out the best route choice for the first half and still making many wrong decisions. Initial mistakes:
#1 20-30s hadn't read the area around the control well enough.
#2 30-60s Wobbled way to much.
#3 60-90s Wrong route choice
#7 2-2.5min Couldn't make the reality fit at all to the map around in the control area and was really confused???
I saw Bjarne who started 4min behind me heading to #8 before I found #7. After this terrible start a lot of my motivation was gone and decided to take it easier, run through the course, and try to get into it for a decent showing. It went better and better with only small things here and there until:
#22 60-90s a green area looked more runnable than I had thought and decided to change my route but lost direction...
To #24 Soren and Christoph P. caught up with 16 and 12min and I lost all motivation, just ran the rest of the course with Christoph trailing behind Soren for a while. Wasn't to hard to run in their tempo the last stretch and wasn't totally exhausted at the finish...
