Running warm up/down (Pre Suunto Games) 20:00 [2]

Warm up before the Suunto Games.

Orienteering race (Classic Distance at Suunt) 1:18:56 [4] ****
shoes: Da Integrators

A tough race, I was running too fast, and as a result made a lot of errors. I was a bit dissapointed in my performance, but there is always next time. I must run at a speed that I can navigate at, no questions. I will not do that again.

Running warm up/down 20:00 [2] **
shoes: Da Integrators

Warm up before the Suunto Games just outside of Helsiniki. I felt pretty good, although I sort of tweaked a muscle hiking my backpack around town. I felt pretty focused before the race. This time also includes the time running to the start and also cooling off after the run.

Orienteering race (Suunto Games H20) 43:56 [4] **** 6.1 km (7:12 / km)
shoes: Da Integrators

An OK run. I was in the circle no problem for all of the controls. I was just a bit lacking in the visualization of the area within the circle. I lost time standing in the areas next to the feature trying to figure out where the control was. I will definitely focus on a plan all of the way to the control. This will cut my time near the control down by quite a bit. An more detailed plan is needed with all controls.

The terrain was great. Lots of bare rock, knolls, and marshes. What it would be like to live here.... An enjoyable time. I look forward to the classic tomorrow.

Physical Activity (Hiking to Heo Hostel) 30:00 [2] *

Hiking from the ferry from Tallinn to the Heo Hostel. A nice walk, probably hiked with my gargantuan backpack for an hour and a half, but will claim 30 min of training. I was sort of navigating with the tourist map. A nice activity.

Orienteering (Control Picking) 1:15:00 [3] ***
shoes: Da Integrators

Control picking in the morning, on Baileytown. I was working on judging contours and distance up or down.

I was a bit tired and felt that I lagged a bit in my map reading.

Running warm up/down 10:00 [2] ***

Warm up for the tempo run.

Running tempo 20:00 [4] ***

A fast run behind the Hawes' place. I felt a bit sluggish after the day off, but a few minutes of fast running took care of that. It was hot as well, the sweat was poring off of me. I tried to read the map when I could. I was mainly focused on running during this session.

Running 50:00 [3] ***

20 min before the tempo and 30 min after the tempo, running at a comfortable pace, focusing on the map I was running with. A great run!

A follow john exercise with Boris on Hogencamp. We drove out to the extreme west corner of the map and headed out into some interesting, terrain along the margin of the map. At some places the terrain was quite technical. This part of Harriman was especially beautiful. We trekked up to the top the open hills and had a go at some more Scandinavian type terrian. It was pretty tough interpreting the map and making it fit the terrain, even while stopped. I think that these parts of the map were mapped in the winter when vegitation wasn't as much of a factor. Anyhow, it was a good exercise in technical orienteering. After the run, I didn't feel too bad physically. A good sign for my overall fitness.
