Orienteering warm up/down 22:30 [3] ***
6c

Ran on the model map a while before my start. From what I can tell, the green is pretty slow and hard to navigate through, the white is alright, but trail running will be faster and safer in most cases.

It's also super hot and humid and I don't like it.

Orienteering warm up/down 5:00 [3]

A little more on the warm-up map. Had to walk a significant portion because it was up a super steep hill, but I got a look at some of the contour features which I didn't really see on the model.

Alright, so here's the dealskies. I did make a few mistakes which I could have prevented by paying more attention and not taking unnecessary risk (route choice on 8, compass on 11 and 20). However, the biggest thing for me was dehydration. I had been drinking before my race, but the heat and humidity dried me out fairly quickly, and there was no water on the course (apparently you're not supposed to put water out if the projected winning time is under 35 minutes, which under good conditions would be fine but not for today). The weather did seem to bother me more than other people, though, which I thought fairly strange. Perhaps so much time in Europe where the weather was better suited for running means my body isn't adjusted to the warmer and more humid conditions.

Basically, I was super thirsty and I got really tired and dehydrated part-way through the race.

Running warm up/down 3:15 [3]

Up

Running race 17:59 [3] 2.7 mi (6:40 / mi)

Catamount 5k, although this one was unusual. It was too short and almost entirely flat. I heard people saying it's around 2.7 miles, which sucks, because that means my actual 5k time is probably around 19:30, maybe 19:15 in ideal conditions (today was humid, I didn't warm up very long, and I'm still on Scottish time so it felt like 11:30 pm). I started out a little fast and definitely died part way through as well, so my pacing is off too. Doesn't bode well for my running.

Running warm up/down 3:00 [3]

Down. After cooling down and I started walking back to the car my calf started to knot up. Felt like a golf ball.
