orienteering 1:03:27 [3]

Lava Butte. Motola.
3 loops. Did not work especially hard on this. Had several hooks and a couple of longer around on the trail legs rather than straight through the brush. Smoke and temps in the mid 90's F continue.

Witch of Many boulders on Lower Dutchman.
Not a good outing by me. Spent quite a bit of thought on critiquing the course planning instead of focusing on the legs I was trying to run--with predictable consequences. So the lesson is the standard one--concentrate upon what you are doing!
The error in the boulder field I can accept because I was right at the control and just misread for a similar pair of hills. The error 7-8 is a mystery but at least I was able to help several others when I finally located myself. A 4 minute leg became more than 15!

orienteering 33:40 [3]

Central Oregon College sprint.
2 errors plus a couple of less than perfect routes.
Hillary now ahead by 90 seconds!
Less smoke today.

orienteering 53:00 [3]

After the sprint we went with Hillary to the "Stratovolcano View" bonus map up the Todd Lake road--no views except smoke. Road up is very rough and a person in a Jeep stopped us to say only high clearance vehicles could make it but we went on zigging and zagging around the holes and bumps and made it to where someone had towed a 20 foot trailer!

I had a great run with excellent contact and reading ahead. Spiked everything, which was tough because the controls were marked with dull orange ribbons.

Super area with lots of open. K and H struggled and didn't see some of the ribbons even though they were in the area.

Arnold Ice Caves
A smoke fest--maybe we will race tomorrow--maybe not.
Parts of my race were good with lots of looking ahead and to the sides with sensible plans. Had good contact except for #2 and the late leg across the road.
Lost time on those.
Hilary was about 90 secs behind so I need to pick up the pace
