Note
(rest day)

Got home from work early and suddenly lost motivation to go for a run. The kids wanted to have a swim, so we did that first before it got too cold outside (water temp. 28 degrees).

Eventually got some running gear on, but still wasn't motivated. So after a while I gave up and put some warmer clothes on.

Next week will be the start of Monday tempo runs. Only 4 weeks to W&T AD, then I'm going to have an easy month.

Adventure Race race (KillaBrook) 4:48:36 [3] 56.43 km (5:07 / km)

Andre saved me by giving me a lift down, since Belinda was using the ute today, so I couldn't bring my ski.

Off to a bad start on the aerial photo stag.e When I got to the first control I found that I'd lost my control card, doubled back and luckily found it on the track up near the shed. Unfortunately this meant I'd lost the lead pack and had to find the controls myself, luckily only minor messing about through.

Off on the MTB with some teams still around. Didn't follow the Mundi Biddi marker into 13 since I couldn't see a track, so kept going to and eventually came across tRicky also still looking for 13, circled around and came into it from the east, passed tRicky on the way to it as he came in from the west. Heading out of it passed MTBJen also taking the eastern approach.

At 15 with Ameko and tRicky, but they took off down the road, whilst I'd left my bike on the track, which I then followed for a while before giving up on it and bushbashing through to the road.

Caught Ameko again as well as Jake and some others around 16. With Ameko still around 17 and 18, blasted away towards 19, took the wrong track and had a bit of a bash to end up out on Clarke Rd just as Ameko was looking for the track which was meant to be opposite where I came out. Slight bash to find a track, led Ameko for a while only to completely screw up and waste time bashing along an impenetrable creek, trying to find somewhere to get through, eventually saw someone ride past on the other side, so shoved my way through to the track, Ameko was smart enough to go back to the better track.

Passed Andre faffing about and trying to make me think we'd overshot 20, so I faffed a bit, dropped my control card, noticed whilst it was still just behind me, eventually just kept going far enough to actually get to the control.

Finally caught Ameko heading to 23 and stayed ahead the rest of the way. Paddle was nice and refreshing since my bladder full of powerade had been leaking all over me the whole time.

Very happy to come in 2nd Individual, 3rd overall, I think everyone had there fair share of nav troubles. Still had plenty left in the legs at the end, just not enough chances to smash it between going astray.

Thanks to the Tooms and Dalto Families for another fun filled event.

Orienteering/Aerial Photo - 35 min 4.3km
T1 - 2 mins
MTB - 3 hrs 3min - 43.0km
T2 - 1 min
Run - 8mins - 1.3km - Oh and dropped control card again, only had to double back 50m
T3 - 2mins
Paddle - 52mins - 6.0km
Run - 7 mins - 1.4km
If it doesn't add up, too bad.

Gps track on the dam looks funny, transition is under water.

Darling Downs to Claremont

Started of easy on tired chilly legs, seemed to pickup after smashing a couple of little hills heading upto the railway flyover and Roe Hwy.

No one to play with, just cutting down the pawns of humanity, until some upstart pawn did the repass along the drag strip, so I sat in behind him until he eased off completely just before the narrows, so I cruised past.

Finally caught up to a yellow jacket heading up Princess Rd, that had been up ahead since the narrows, saw it was sticklegman, and smashed past him up the hill.

Good to finish with average speed over 30kph after being a couple of minutes behind around Cockburn.

Claremont to Darling Downs

Fun times chasing bunnies. Someone fast came past along the drag strip, so I jumped in behind until he turned off at Canning Bridge.

Had a long chase to catch a guy in a where's Wally shirt, from seeing him at Cranford Ave, with someone sitting in behind him, finally caught him before Farrington, where he turned off one way, whilst my tail I'd had since before Mt Henry turned off the other way.

Running long (Seville Grove - ChampLake) 2:10:45 [3] 24.0 km (5:27 / km)

From Ryan's kindy, slightly extended to fit in an extra 2k's.

Started out a bit faster this time. Thought about trying to keep my feet dry, so tried cutting out to Ranford Rd, thinking I could come back along the Tonkin Hwy bike path. But by the time I got to Ranford Rd I'd already been through some swamp so just doubled back and went the normal way since it's more fun than a bike path.

More extra loop out past Champion Lakes. Had a stabbing pain in the back towards the end, hopefully just a stitch which had migrated from the front, so eased back a few times, before finally pushing through to the end, with a bit more extra loop to pad it out.

Pretty happy with the improvement over the last 3 weeks, done
21.1km @ 5:45/km
22.0km @ 5:36/km
24.0km @ 5:26/km
so going further and faster. Probably just one more week of this build up (on Thurs anyway), then I'm volunteering at kindy the next week, then I think it's school holidays.

Might head for the hills on the return half of the loop next week, if I'm organised enough to suss out a route.

Jake, Dalto and I again this morning. Still no sign of our fairweather friends, maybe they're all holding out for light and warm as well as dry, although it's even mostly light already.

The boys were mostly in cruise mode early. When I finally had I go on the front around the cop shop, I looked down and thought "Oh, that's a bit fast" and then we got a red light.

Tried to get to the front to leadout for the sprint down to North Freo, but Jake held me off around the last corner.

Lead for a while before the watertower climb, and managed to stay in contact for most of the climb, so I thought that putting some effort in before the climbed helped me, but apparently the boys were taking it easy.

Another turn out the front around the tennis courts, then struggled to stay on as the boys cruised past, still in chat mode. So not too much effort after that, just a short spurt once or twice.

Was happy to be able to hang on behind Jake as Dalto took the UWA sprint.

HR graph would have been interesting, I think it got pretty high a few times. But the chest strap was playing up, only showing 50-60 and then it died completely.

Running (Grass Farm loops) 53:38 [4] 9.48 km (5:39 / km)

Fletch escaped intact from the doctors to direct to session afterall. Wil, Simon, new girl Trish(?) and I.

3 x 2.2km Grass Farm loops at 10-15km pace, easy jog back to the start plus 30 sec rest.

9:51
10:06
10:01

Simon was gone in a flash at the start, Wil was dropping behind so not giving a huge amount of motivation to push hard.

Second rep felt faster than the first, but was a bit of a blow out, managed to get a bit back on the third.

Legs felt fine no soreness/stiffness, though they were pushed a bit up the hills. But was pushing really hard cardio wise.
