Rogaine race 5:40:00 [2] 22.0 km (15:27 / km)
shoes: Salomon XT Wings

Didn't sleep well as sleeping mat is a comfy & warm as a cement block so was happy enough to get up and get moving. Not nice to put on wet pants and shoes but a few cheesies for breakfast made me forget about it. Daylight came just as we hit the first checkpoint and continued to travel along at a decent pace with the bush and tracks being a lot easier than yesterday. Then hit the golden wattle which looks lovely from a distance but not when you are 5 ft nothing and thrashing through it while getting completely soaked...even though Paul now thinks my jokes are completely crass.....i am blaming delirium! Feet were starting to get a little sore at this stage even though everything else was feeling good, we ran down a few downhill tracks to pick up the pace and then on one of our last runs my toe exploded and I was not a happy camper, fortunately the guys were open to heading straight back to HH instead of getting the extra 30 pointer while I secretly prayed we did not miss out on a placing because of a little toe. Hopped back into HH very happy to be back and to have not lost the control card. Second best feeling of the day was getting my shoes off and into my thongs, best feeling was making top 3 and winning mixed category. All credit has to go to the nav and pace setting of Paul and Shane who are top guys as well. Thanks team had a great time :)

Rogaine race 12:20:00 [2] *** 42.0 km (17:37 / km)
shoes: Salomon XT Wings

First mixed rogaine for me teaming up with Paul and Shane with a last minute call up. Settled on a 45km course to take us up to midnight leaving one section clear for the morning. Was trusted with the control card which completely terrified me, had nasty visions of losing the card after 17.5 hrs on the course! Set off and found pace quite good, biggest difference I noticed was the boys ability to nav on the go and pretty much just nav on contours and not have to follow a bearing. Ran down the odd track but pretty much just kept a good walking pace through the bush. Couple of nice hills which found me out a touch, so more hill training require before NZ. Once dark spent most of our time on bearing, but still hit most controls with ease, while I spent most of my time staring at Paul or Shane's feet in front of me. Boys decided to take an extra dip in the river at one point thinking two river crossings in 10 metres was not enough. Rain was pretty constant after dark but a change into thermal, jacket and beanie was enough to keep me warm. Cut off a couple of controls towards the end as had a couple of thick bush controls which slowed us down a touch. Kept pretty well on top of my nutrition and water intake, only issue seemed to be my socks were too thick so when they got wet my toes were squished and started blistering up. Got back to hash & had a quick warm up next to the fire and veg curry and hit the mat before alarm was set to go off in 4.5 hrs.
