After looking at map planned out a 50km loop and thought we would start with the top section to allow us to run home later on in the night if we were behind schedule as there were more roads etc in the southern section. Missed a 30 pointer early which put us behind schedule and ended up 1hr behind our planned route at 92. 71 proved to be tricky but after that didn't have a lot of trouble picking up the controls, but should have planned our string course more on track routes rather that as the crow flies as we pretty much stayed on track as we hit the mid section of the map. Ended up having to cut out the southern section of the map so tried to scramble as many points as we could through the middle and then had a fun 3 km run along the bitumen road to get back in time.
Food options were good, blistered up slightly on heels so need to tape there, other than that happy with pace but need to adjust distance when mapping so it aligns with route along tracks.
Must be getting old as my contacts are fine for long distance but then they are having difficulty adjusting to picking up small details on the map like fence/power line and small tracks.....very sad but will need to find a solution. Also mental note to wear sunnies next time as got poked in eye with stick..fortunately managed to catch contact lens but after putting in back in could not really see out of it for the rest of the race.
