Riding to the training and back - got full assortiment of Dutch weather - wind and horizontal rain. Fun!

Training in Slurf. Was good because Elisabeth and Peter started ahead of me, so I had fun catching them. Caught both of them already to the 1st control by taking the safer route around. Ran ahead of them for 4 controls and then decided to let Elisabeth through. Caught her 2 more times, despite taking a straight route (which I knew wasn't a good idea) through dark green thorn area. Great fun despite the worst weather ever.

Picking up controls. The weather was extremely unpleasant, slight drizzle and windy all the time. The most interesting part was that running with my headlamp, I couldn't see anything because the raindrops reflected light, so I had to stop every time I needed to read the map. And I did need to read the map quite a bit since despite setting the controls earlier that day I made about 10 minutes in mistakes. Also, some thorn hit my foot going through the side of my o shoe and it really hurts now (the next morning).
Bicycling warm up/down 15:00 [2] 3.5 km (4:17 / km)
Riding home.

Orienteering race 1:18:43 [4] **** 11.26 km (6:59 / km) +100m 6:42 / km

5th national competition in Vlassakers map near Amersfoort. A beautiful day and - unusually for Dutch orienteering - electronic punching was used. The course planning was nice since it was varier in terms of lengths and difficulty of legs and control locations. I was not very sharp physically because, although I have logged 9 mistakes, the furthest time loss I can count is about 3 minutes and I lost 16 minutes to Clemens. I guess some speed training would be good if I were not so lazy.

Thursday Nov 3

Bicycling warm up/down 11:26 [2] 3.5 km (3:16 / km) +10m 3:13 / km

Rode to the training. Started off fast but then caught olaf on the way and slowed down.
Orienteering (Night-O, trail run) 1:09:40 [3] ***** 6.15 km (11:20 / km) +120m 10:19 / km

Ran together with Olaf, so only orienteered to half of the controls. Very technically challenging course, especially at night. Enjoyed a lot.
Bicycling warm up/down 14:46 [2] 4 km (3:42 / km)
ahr:148
Rode home.
