I decided to declare myself healthy enough to run. To say that I felt good would be an exageration.

Sore throat and all that jazz. The crappy thing is that I have to miss 4 competitions in one day because of that...

Thursday Oct 18

Running 38:40 [2] 6.8 km (5:41 / km) +10m 5:39 / km
ahr:165 max:179 shoes: Asics grey
I thought this was supposed to be the second half of october. 70 degrees at 6 pm makes me think more of july or so.

ahr:171 max:182 shoes: Asics grey
Bought a new heart rate monitor and went out to play with it.

Orienteering race 1:32:51 [3] *** 7.6 km (12:13 / km) +375m 9:48 / km

WCOC meet at Danbury. A great day for orienteering, unfortunately the course that was offered was a mountaineering course. I ran perhaps about 40% of the whole course because the rest of the time it was either a very steep uphill or a very steep downhill. I lost interest and concentration around the middle of the course, which resulted in two 3-4 minute mistakes, which should not have been there because the navigation was really straightforward.

Red course - Splits

Sunday Oct 7

Event: Hudson Highlander 2007

Saturday Oct 6

Note
Latvian long-O ("marathon") championships, Raiskums, Latvia. I was ready to go to Europe to avoid orienteering long distance (in Highlander) but it was not meant to be - my brother has enrolled me for the Long-O chmps on Saturday.
Running warm up/down 6:00 [1]
shoes: Falcon
Warm-up before the marathon champs.
Orienteering race 2:55:45 [3] *** 16.1 km (10:55 / km) +800m 8:45 / km
spiked:24/34c shoes: Falcon
Latvian marathon-O champs with mass start. A very nice day for running. I ran H21A thinking that I would be able to be close to the leaders. Not so, mistakes of 20+ minutes plus a 4 minute route choice error and my bad shape put me 41 minutes back from the winning time. The fact that I ran completely alone for 90% of the race did not help either. Cannot say that I loved the map - 10 minutes of my mistakes I will blame on that. Otherwise it was quite a challenging test of orienteering skills.
