Note
Stockholm Marathon
Running race 3:39:31 [3] 42.19 km (5:12 / km) +150m 5:07 / km vdot: 42.2
ahr:164 max:190 shoes: White Asics II
Stockholm marathon. Hot, very hard after 37 km or so. Ate a pickle at about 20 km, was very nice. Placed 1976th out of 13543 finishers.

Splits:
5km 26.59 (start crowds and a peeing break)
10km 25.44
15km 25.34
20km 25.27
25km 25.09
30km 25.45
35km 25.56 (second crossing of the gigantic bridge, but still strong)
40km 26.59 (started to feel the bridge, the heat and everything)

Tuesday May 27

Running 55:41 [3] 10.3 km (5:24 / km) +50m 5:17 / km
ahr:162 max:181 shoes: White Asics II
My legs are getting scared of the marathon. Aches all over, but they pass.

Thursday May 22

Running 43:34 [2] 8.3 km (5:15 / km) +30m 5:09 / km
ahr:152 max:163 shoes: White Asics II
Feelin' good.

Tuesday May 20

Running 55:42 [2] 10.5 km (5:18 / km) +50m 5:11 / km
ahr:153 shoes: White Asics II
Legs felt completely dead for the first 5 km or so, but slowly got better towards the end.

Sunday May 18

Note
Strasbourg 1/2 marathon
Running race 1:40:44 [4] 21.1 km (4:46 / km) +50m 4:43 / km vdot: 44.7
ahr:171 max:191 shoes: White Asics II
Strasbourg half-marathon. Started fast, prehaps too fast, but after a while was passed by the 1:45 pace man. Hung behing him until shortly before 17 km mark, after which found some energy reserves and ran away. Felt good about my shape. This appears to be a new half-marathon PB.

Wednesday May 14

Running 1:07:16 [2] 13 km (5:10 / km) +60m 5:03 / km
ahr:158 max:177 shoes: White Asics II
A very comfortable-feeling after-work run. Need to measure the distance and re-check the time and the hr.

Monday May 12

Orienteering race 1:44:08 [4] **** 11.3 km (9:13 / km) +235m 8:21 / km
ahr:162 max:180 spiked:19/28c shoes: Falcon
The last day of the Belgian 3-days. Decided to skip the warm-up altogether and it (or better brain activity) must have helped. Only 7 minutes of mistakes and I was pretty satisfied with my run. The terrain was much more reminiscent of Latvian terrains, so I felt more at home. Placing reasonably well did not save me from coming last over three days' total among the qualified runners. I decided that it is a sign that I should be more realistic about my abilities and start running H21A from now on.

Sunday May 11

Orienteering warm up/down 19:25 [1] *** 2.6 km (7:28 / km) +25m 7:08 / km
ahr:144 max:166 spiked:2/3c shoes: Falcon
Warm-up on the way to the start of the 2nd day. Used a warm-up map, where had no problems with 2 controls and never found the third. Should have known it was not a good sign.
Orienteering race 2:39:55 [3] **** 14.2 km (11:16 / km) +310m 10:09 / km
ahr:158 max:180 spiked:19/29c shoes: Falcon
WRE day. Disaster. 28 minutes in mistakes and pretty much walked the last 1/4 of the course because I had given up. Twice I tried to run with someone else who had caught up with me and twice I ended up in mistakes of 4 and 5 minutes. I wonder what I should learn from that...
The same vague vegetation, which was driving me mad plus some crazy uphills, which sapped the little energy I had left. Pathetic performance.

Saturday May 10

Event: 3 Days of Belgium 2008

Running warm up/down 9:45 [1] 1.8 km (5:25 / km) +10m 5:16 / km
ahr:150 max:167 shoes: Falcon
Warm-up on the way to the start.
Orienteering race 2:01:01 [4] **** 12.7 km (9:32 / km) +215m 8:47 / km
ahr:170 max:192 spiked:13/29c shoes: Falcon
The first day of the Belgian 3-days. It definitely showed that I was orienteering the third time this year. I count roughly 23 minutes in mistakes, many of which could have been easily avoided. I cannot say that I agree with the rather vague mapping of the vegetation, the understanding of which was crucial in minimizing the mistakes because there simply were no other points of reference. Was really looking forward to each drinking station, which luckily there were plenty. My brain switched off after the spectator control about 3/4 of the course around and I made half of my mistakes in the last quarter. Still placed relatively decently for my own standards.

Thursday May 8

Running 54:25 [3] 10.5 km (5:11 / km) +50m 5:04 / km
ahr:166 max:178
Early morning start of the loooong holiday weekend run. Despite the earliness it was already pretty hot.

Tuesday May 6

Running 40:19 [4] 8 km (5:02 / km) +40m 4:55 / km
ahr:164 max:181 shoes: White Asics II
Definitely a faster run than intended. Started racing a guy 7 minutes in and then just couldn't slow down and then I decided that since it did not feel too bad I would keep it up until the end.

Saturday May 3

Running long 2:39:38 [2] 28.5 km (5:36 / km) +100m 5:30 / km
ahr:156 max:173 shoes: White Asics II
This was tough. Ran too soon after breakfast, so had major stomach discomfort for the first hour or so. Settled in some kind of rythm only after 100 minutes, after which I ground it out until the end. Beautiful day, perhaps a tad too warm, but my leaking "new" camelbak knock-off kept my posterior nice and cool.

Thursday May 1

Orienteering race 1:47:25 [3] *** 9.9 km (10:51 / km) +40m 10:38 / km
ahr:172 max:186 spiked:14/25c shoes: Falcon
My second orienteering (or rather "course d'orientation") race of the year. Regional long distance championships in Camp Oberhaus, about 40 km from Strasbourg. Not a lot of good things to say about my run. I can easily count 27 minutes in mistakes. My only excuse is that plenty of non-spiked controls were legitimately bingo, with the added bonus of nothing matching up on the map.
At control 4 of 25 an Estonian guy caught up with me (I think, because I had already made about 20 minutes of mistakes by that point) and we saw each other on and off until control 20. After that I managed to get away due to him getting stuck in some nice, thorny bushes (of which there were plenty) but only beat him by about 2 minutes to the finish.
I am not really having high hopes for the WRE next Saturday...
Map bingo controls - 1/4/7, 3, 5, 6 and kind of 10 (sketchy map)
Running warm up/down 10:00 [1] 1 km (10:00 / km)
shoes: Falcon
