Volleyball 25:00 [1]

The day was nice and Sarah wanted to pepper, so we tried. Lawn was dry to the touch, but very springy so diving wasn't an option. Ball was a bit deflated and we didn't feel like looking for the pump, so we made do and concentrated on footwork and form.

Swimming 34:57 [2] 1.0 mi (34:57 / mi)

Thought the time might be high because I was getting tired, but the splits show remarkable consistency. I therefore conclude that the 1 sec/length slowness was probably more a factor of the water temperature (high) than my exhaustion.

Cardio (Elliptical) 12:00 [3]

Random @ 15

Weights 31:00 [3]

Found "The Ab Coaster", a machine hidden in an alcove we'd never explored before. (Found it only because of the noise of someone using it.) It was an interesting alternative from the inclined sit-ups. Have to see about mixing it in to future workouts.

Swimming 20:44 [2] 1.0 km (20:44 / km)

Watercize 52:00 [1]

I am a bad person... Upon finishing my swim I was told that the watercize instructor was ill and the class was hoping that I could teach. Work has really burned me out the last two weeks, so I asked Theresa to teach class and she did. Why is this bad? Well, a bit over eight weeks ago, she fell and fractured her patella. It was only Tuesday afternoon that she got the okay to resume activities (subject to "good judgment") and I made her do this anyway...

Of course, she did fine and said the knee didn't hurt at all.

Orienteering 26:02 [3] 2.6 km (10:01 / km)

Line-O training as part of BFLO annual meeting at Emery Park. There were supposed to be twenty controls out there, but I only found 18. Upon finishing I learned that there were only eighteen (and I had looked right at the location where the missing one was). I had missed on in an area of green slash. I got to the previous control (at a road crossing) and looked ahead on the bearing of the line; green slash to my left, white woods to my right - but the line went through the middle of the slash. I decided the vegetation on the map was old and followed the bearing along the edge of the slash; the control was in the middle. I'm bummed about missing it, but feel that it's okay since I actually did something quite sensible in terms of the line-O at that point.

Disc Golf 5:55 intensity: (51 @1) + (1:12 @2) + (3:52 @5)

Emery Park course. First time playing in a long time; first time on the course; footing was muddy. It all combined into a fun time, but a high score. Following the advice of a fellow golfer who logs training for running, full out shots are 4 seconds at intensity 5, approach shots are 4 seconds at intensity 2, and putts are 3 seconds at intensity 1. Very arbitrary, but it reflects the fact that my throwing shoulder and torso feel this very "short" workout.

Cardio (Bike (Standard)) 16:17 [3]

Random @ 15 until Phil showed for racquetball... (at least his body showed up)

Racquetball 41:00 intensity: (30:00 @1) + (11:00 @2)

Payne (or what looked like him)

15-4 (tied at 4)
15-1
11-2

Ouch. At least I was still running some...

YardWork 15:00 [3]

One final excavation - and the driveway is exposed! - plus some brush hauling. (Then a long drive home, not logged.)

YardWork (Snow shovelling) 10:00 [3]

Still more ice excavation. One more day and the driveway should be clear. My mom pointed out today that the next four days will be above freezing and that if I do nothing, the driveway will probably be clear by Monday, but I promised to do it, so I'll probably use the morning sun to help me finish tomorrow.

XC Skiing (Classic) 1:15:00 [2] 5.0 mi (15:00 / mi) +100m 14:07 / mi

At Notchview Reservation near Windsor, MA. Tremendously variable conditions: as looped away from the warming hut, it was gorgeously tracked for classic and skate, then nice for classic, then rough for classic with the tracks coming and going after thaw/freezes with no retracking, then a complete loss of trail (in a field - thank god I had a contour map telling me where to pick up the woods portion!), then crunching through crust and finally back to the good stuff as I head in. Went pretty hard, but kept getting "thrown off" by permanent O course markers. Asked at the warming hut but the guy didn't know anything more than that they were there.

XC Skiing (Skate) 48:00 [3] 3.5 mi (13:43 / mi) +60m 13:01 / mi

Tried (one of) the skating loop(s) at Notchview. Being tired, it was actually easier for me to keep my rhythm than in my other outings, but I gave up on some of the hills. Also stopped (but kept the clock going) for a conversation in the middle with a skier who appeared to be (but was not) in distress.

12 PM

YardWork (Snow shovelling) 10:00 [4]

More "ice" excavation in my parents driveway.

Running 38:58 [3] 3.9 mi (10:00 / mi) +55m 9:34 / mi

Visiting my folks. Cascade Road Loop,

YardWork (Snow shovelling) 45:00 [3]

Excavating my parents mailbox.

Two days before the last big storm, the plow clipped their box, sending the top flying. Then, during the storm, the plow crew saw no mailbox so let a snowbank accumulate in front of the box. Now, even though the box has been replaced, the post office claims that they can't get to the box until we shovel it out. Of course the snowbank is more or less a solid block of ice once the top part is off. I'll be back at it tomorrow...
