Orienteering race 14:42 [5] 3.8 km (3:52 / km) +25m 3:45 / km
WOC sprint final. 8th place 1:10 min behind Maja Alm which won with 40 sec margin. 20 sec from medal, 14 sec from top 6.
Knew what to do and looked forward to get started. Excited to see if they had put up fences or not. The plan was to give my self time to read each leg before I start it, and keep the focus on the leg where I was. A good plan, and I opened as planned very controlled to get into the map before running away from the start triangle. My race was mistake free and very good, but I do two routechoice mistakes (3rd and 12th control) which costed me 20 sec to the best split which mostly was Maja Alm who ran faster than me, so maybe I lost somewhere between 10-15 sec on those to legs put together. My race, if looking at the splits, started out good but not having very fast split times, and then from the 6th control and until the finnish I have very many good splits. At the arena passage I got passed by Maja Alm who started a minute behind me, but she was clearly faster and I did not really manage to follow her. But I pushed as hard as I could without doing mistakes, and lost 10 sec to her on the last loop. I think I planed my race good, being able to keep my speed or even increase it compared to the others the 2nd half of the course.
Satisfied with a new personal best individual WOC result, and the distance up to the medals is not big, which is very motivating!
I was a bit disappointed that the course setter had not used any extra fences, keeping the terrain as it was - making the sprint much easier than it could have been - running fast got even more important than solving technical problems best, than if the terrain would have been unknowed....
