Hauraki Gulf sail day 4: from Bon Accord harbor (Stockyard Bay) motor sailed jib only (because main halyard disconnected) and lost up the mast !) into the increasingly strong W and SW winds with remains of big swells from N.

Anchored at Tiritiri Matangi Island on W side by wharf and dinghyed in to shore for walk on the singing island . Birds were noticeably singing loudly ; we could hear them when at anchor.

After touring the island and short swim we set up S into the strong winds and motored to NE side of Motutapu Island and anchored in station bay for the night .

This is a pest free island that the vegetation has been being restored for the last 25 years. It has an awesome array of birds tui , takahe and little blue penguin. We hiked up the wattle track stopping at the bird stations on the way , and arrived at light house in thunderstorm and heavy rain (where large group of humans were sheltering) . Carried on back along ridge track to Hobbs Bay and saw little blue penguins in their nesting boxes. Then back to the boat for lunch and swim.
