Note
Travel day to Moab. Got here around 10:00 after a delayed flight, and it was pouring rain. In the vernacular of Cristina...WTF?

I was so happy to wake up this morning and not be sore. It's the little things.

Event: Giant's Rib Raid

Running race (Trail) 3:00:00 [4]
Giant's Rib Raid. First women's team and in the top half overall. The QuantiGHO Bees made it, although some better than others. Bash was a machine, keeping our pace honest and constant. The navigating wasn't extremely difficult, with two road running sections that were not the most fun. I never did get really cold, even though it was below freezing the entire race, and snowing for most of it. There was a bit of snow on the ground, enough in places to hide the wet spots in the woods. Some interesting times: climbing up the ski slope that was covered in snow and ice, tip-toeing our way through a very wet marshy area, linking arms to cross an ice cold river up to mid-calf, climbing down into a deep, tight crevasse for a control. Speaking of calves, about halfway through, my calves started cramping up off and on, and the whole time I was running they always felt like they were on verge of cramping. So, I ran the rest of the race in a heightened state of anticipation. I'm glad I did it, but I'm not 100% certain I would do it again. Maybe.

Orienteering race 2:03:00 [4] ***
There were several variations of orienteering and maps used, including a line-O, using Google aerial maps, maps with no features but the ones the controls were on, and a 1:2000 section.

Note
Valerie and I made it to Toronto and are safely housed Chez Waddington. It was -5C today, with snow flurries all day and a biting cold wind. We had a nice visit to the McMichael Art Gallery, spiritual home of the Group of Seven, and a pre-race planning lunch with Bash (and 'Bent tried to not listen in). I plan on wearing many layers tomorrow...almost as many as jj wears on his winter runs! I hope I stay warm!

Running 28:38 [3] 3.0 mi (9:33 / mi)
This was not a good run. I wasn't feeling very strong and just kind of slogged through. I shouldn't have been tired because I got 8 hours of sleep last night, which is unheard of for me. Maybe it was the warmer weather. Or maybe, it was just one of those days.

Strength Training 50:00 [2]

Monday Apr 2

Cycling 1:00:00 [2]
Some time on the trainer after a weekend of lots of running. My legs actually didn't feel bad at all, which is a nice side effect of being more in shape. I just thought they deserved a bit of a rest.
