Yoga 40:00 [1]

Just an easy session of yoga to stretch everything out from the weekend. My knee was remarkably not sore this morning, for which I am eternally grateful.

Orienteering race 1:28:00 [3] **** 5.8 km (15:10 / km) +140m 13:32 / km

Boulder Dash, Bow, NH. Red course. Today went much better, thank goodness. My knee was still pretty stiff this morning, and I was contemplating not even going out. Then I decided I would walk the Green course just to work on my navigational skills. After I did a short jog around the parking area, I decided I could walk the Red course. So, I started out fast walking, and was hitting each control pretty cleanly. About 1/3 of the way through the course, my knee was loosening up, so I started jogging. Then, about 1/2 way through, it felt pretty good, so I started running, and still managed to find the controls with no major disasters. I had a bit of trouble on #11 when I drifted too far right and hit the field right by the houses. But, I headed straight down towards the big marsh, and hit right on the control. I guess the powers to be figured I had been punished enough yesterday.

I was very happy that I decided to go out on Red and was able to redeem myself, somewhat. I would have hated to leave NH on such a sour note. These were definitely challenging courses, in challenging terrain. Nice work by Bob Lux and UNO. Thanks!

Orienteering race 1:48:00 [4] **** 5.8 km (18:37 / km) +105m 17:05 / km

Boulder Dash, Bow, NH. Red Course. So many things converged to make this a pretty horrific run. First, my knee still hurt from last weekend, and as I write this, it's pretty stiff and sore. Second, I decided my new contacts were *not* going to work since everything is still pretty fuzzy. So, I switched to my old ones that are not bifocal, which meant that I also had to run with reading glasses...something I've never done before. It was pretty awkward to run with them on. If I end up going out tomrorow, I might just have to wear my regular glasses, which are bifocals, and see how that works. I really need to straighten out this whole eyesight gig.

As for the course, it was pretty tough and I blew up on two controls (#2 and #11). The footing was not Laramie-like, but it wasn't too bad. Even though it was a disastrous run, I still had fun work through the challenges.

Running 24:32 [3]

Not a good run. I did something to my knee on Sunday while I was orienteering because it has had varying degrees of swelling and stiffness since then. Although, I can't really remember any acute episode that I could pinpoint as the cause. I did jump off a cliff that, in hindsight, might have been a bit too high to jump off of and land on one leg. And it didn't hurt for the run or the rest of Sunday, but Monday morning brought some tenderness.

I tried to run yesterday, but that didn't feel too good, so I stopped. I went out again today and realized very quickly that this was going to be a shorter run through the neighborhood, but at least I could keep going. My knee is a little swollen now, with some pain on the inside and tightness in the back. Not fun!
