| Today was supposed to be a nice day with slightly warmer temps. We had even thought about driving over to the Snowies for some skiing. But, reality turned into a blizzard. After some morning sunshine, it clouded over, started snowing, and then the winds began to howl. I decided early on that I wouldn't go skiing, but Mikell still held out hope. Eventually that was dashed when the highway was shut down. I opted for another trip to the Laramie Rec center. I logged some time on the stationary bike, and then ventured into the pool for the first time in over a year. It didn't feel like it had been that long, so that was good. My knee actually feels fine after the non-running of the past week. |

| Things warmed up (or at least weren't as cold) today, so I ventured out on to the trails. It was a beautiful day, partly cloudy and low winds. I felt stronger today, stopping less, but still feeling clumsy on the uphills. I ventured on some trails for the first time this year to see the beetle damage occuring on the pine trees. Happy Jack will definitely look different in a few years. |

| Today was even colder than yesterday, so I headed for the Laramie Rec Center for a ride on a stationary bike. I was also going to swim afterwards, but had such a headache at the end of the ride that I just headed home. Hopefully, it will be a tad less cold tomorrow and I will feet motivated to go skiing. |

| Good news on the pie front. After spending the night in the refrigerator, the pie dough behaved much better today, and the pie *looks* like a baked cherry pie now. We'll see later how it tastes. |

| This turned into an unscheduled rest day for two reasons...one, it was cold-cold-cold outside and two, I was getting ready for a small dinner we were hosting for Mikell's neighbors. I had settled on a penne-prosciutto-mozarella dish with a salad and a cherry pie. Well, disaster struck early when I opened the oven door to check on the pie and billows of smoke came whooshing out. Evidently, the dough had begun melting in a Dali-esque fashion onto the floor of the oven and over the heating element and, as I was the only one home, I was on my own. I grabbed a cookie sheet to put underneath, but there was just one oven shelf, so nothing to rest the cookie sheet on other than the glowing heating element. So, holding the cookie sheet under the pie dish, I reached across the kitchen, stretching to the limits of my body (here's where the yoga comes in handy), and grabbed a pot holder (which later caught on fire...just a little). I finally got the pie dish out, the oven turned off, and some of the goop cleaned up. I'm not sure what happened, I've never seen that before. As luck would have it, the neighbors had some cherry pie leftover from their Christmas dinner, so all was not lost. |

| We went out a little earlier today, so it wasn't quite as cold. It was actually quite beautiful. My knee continues to hold out, but my arms were beyond tired today. There were many people out on the trail, most notably one woman who had a beautiful classic stride and who kept passing me time and time and time again. |

| My first foray into skiing for the year, and I was so happy to discover that it didn't really bother my knee. I was afraid the skating motion would aggravate it, but it did not. Going uphill was just a little twingey, but nothing too bad. The worst part, as usual, was the lack of oxygen and the spaghetti arms. The good part was that I didn't feel nearly as clumsy as I did on my first day last year. One frustration I don't have to deal with.
It was an overcast day, but not windy. It even started out with a nice temperature, but in the last fifteen minutes or so, the temps took a decidedly downward turn and I was very happy to get back to a warm truck. |

| So, I just checked last year's first day of skiing entry to see how long I went, and it said that that first day went much better than the previous year's first day. I see a positive trend here! |
