Orienteering race 54:43 [3] 4.8 km (11:24 / km)

Tucson A meet, Day 2, Green. I "ran" about the same as yesterday. Pretty much walked straight to each control, with the only difference being that today I managed to run a bit. My knee was feeling good this morning after some ice and ibuprofen yesterday, and it continued to feel good on the course. So, on some of the flatter and smoother areas, I was able to jog a bit. I didn't feel that at all in my knee, and it was only mildly swollen and stiff after the race. I think I might be on the road to recovery.

Today was hotter than yesterday, and the course was pretty easy, technically speaking. Overall, the weekend was a blast and Tucson did a great job hosting this event. If they ever have another winter meet that offers such a beautiful respite from the harsh weather back at home, count me in!

Orienteering race 1:08:13 [3] 5.6 km (12:11 / km) +150m 10:45 / km

TSN A-meet, Day 1, Green. When I signed up for this meet, I knew there was a good chance that I would be walking the course due to my knee surgery, and that proved to be correct. I was able to keep up a pretty powerful stride, though, which kept me right in the thick of things in F45. The worst part was going downhill because it was usually fairly steep and filled with loose rocks, so I had to be extra careful. I took the straight line route to all of the controls since I wasn't going to gain much by going around anything.

My knee started hurting over the last third of the course, and stiffened up pretty badly after I was done. After some ibuprofen and some ice, though, it felt better.

Hiking 44:10 [1]

A hike up Tejas Trail in Guadalupe Mts. National Park. It was definitely cooler than at Big Bend; I even had to wear a jacket. The wind was whipping up and the trail was pretty rocky. It was nice to go for the hike, and my knee felt good, although I was being careful on the rocky ground.

Hiking 2:00:00 [1]

Mr. Fox and I headed to the Rio Grande to see some immigrants, but none were to be found. We did see many signs advising us not to purchase items from Mexican nationals. We were wondering what that meant, when on one section of our walk, on the river bank, we spied a wire scorpion and some painted walking sticks, and a sign advising us that "donations" were most welcome. Later, on top of hill, we watched a farmer across the river plowing his fields with two horses and a plow, as his goats wandered around the farm. A very bucolic scene.

The hike was nice, but a tad on the hot side. And we saw a Least Grebe. So fine.
