| Running (Trail) 30:45 [3] | ||
| I went down to Fredericksburg Battlefield for the first time in a long time, and it looked like a pine tree graveyard. We've had a few pretty fierce windstorms this winter, and it looks like they took their toll on the battlefield. All of the trees that had fallen across the trail, though, had been sawed in half and cleared off the trail.
I am very pleased with this run. I would venture to say that part of it was even done at a tempo pace. I also concentrated on running evenly and smoothly, and my hip didn't hurt during or after. I think this strategy of starting out with shorter runs is turning out to be a good one.

| Decided to spend Earth Hour (or most of it, anyway) on my trainer, in my basement, in the dark. It was a little scary, but one of the easiest trainer sessions in a while. I think I cheated a little bit by listening to my iPod, but all of the lights were out.
I'll get a final reading on that possible cheating because, as it turns out, my best friend/sometimes training partner/former boss, Meg, has been consulting with WWF since last fall, and has been heading up the Earth Hour - North America initiative and coordinating with all of the cities to turn off their major landmarks. So, I've been living Earth Hour for quite a while now and am so proud that it seems to have been such a success.

| I *did* make it back to Lord Stirling Park for another run. It was a little colder this morning, so a lot of the mud was frozen, which was better. There were also some boardwalks on this loop, and while running on one of these boardwalks, a big fat turkey ran across the path right in front of me. Pretty cool.
I've noticed that my running form must have changed because my right hip feels a little tight after running now. I think I might be running weird because I'm trying to protect my knee. I need to concentrate on a more balanced running stride.

| I've decided that perhaps I should take it a little easier in my re-entry to running since the longer runs led to longer recovery times. So, I found a nice environmental park in Basking Ridge, NJ, that is adjacent to the Great Swamp National Wildlife Refuge. There are many trails in this area, so I even had to carry a map brochure to make sure I took the right trails. The trails were pretty muddy and haflway through the run I realized, "Duh...it's a swamp!"
It was a beautiful, cold morning, with the sun rising through the trees and a gajillion birds making a racket! I'll be here for the week, so I'm sure I'll be back for another run.
