Hiking 45:00
I got to Fountainhead early enough to set out water at a water control. I had brought my big backpack (the one that's turning into a water control backpack) and thought I would/could carry 6 gallons. Well, after putting on the pack and looking at how far out the water control was, I decided I wouldn't/couldn't carry 6 gallons, so I reduced it to 4. It was a trail hike out to the control, with one big downhill and one massive uphill. Good training for the knee. I cut through the woods on the way back.

As it turned out, I probably didn't need to set out *any* water, since it POURED down rain all day. There was even enough lightning and thunder to chase some people off their courses. I'm really glad we had rented the pavillion.

My first solo attempt at being "Valerie" at a local meet, and it all went well. I just needed to call Valerie a few times to check on some things, but otherwise, I noodled through. Someone suggested I should have made up a T-shirt that said, "Valerie for a day."

Running (Trail) 32:00 [3]
Trail run to and from the area that I was hanging controls.
Orienteering 1:14:00 [2]
I met Dave and Victor this morning at Fountainhead to hang controls for tomorrow's meet. It was a beautiful morning, although towards the end, it was getting a little hot. I just wish the meet was today because tomorrow's forecast is for rain all day, some thunderstorms, and in the 60s.

My first time in the woods since my knee operation, and it went well. I was definitely more tentative running down the hills, but there were no bad twists or falls, so that was good. Overall, a positive experience.

Running 35:00 [2]
I went for a slow jog with my neighbor, Carol. She's in even worse shape than I am right now, so we took it easy. I'm a little happy that went slower because the temps were in the 80s again. Ugh!
Cycling (Trainer) 45:00
Took a spin on the trainer and threw in some intervals for good measure.

Running 43:43
((I'm waiting for Valerie to post the run so I can just cut and paste. Let's go, Valerie!!))

Plan was to hand off epunch equipment to Valerie around 7 PM, but get a run in before that since I was going to finish up early at work. Unfortunately, I got side tracked with many other things at work, including leading several conference calls and finishing up a presentation, so I called Valerie and told her to go without me. Luckily, Valerie was equally sidetracked and twisted my arm into running with her since she could now wait for me and the later start. We headed out a little before 7 PM.

Walked down the steep hill behind Valerie's house, and turned left on the Four Mile Run trail (no time). Trail is all paved, but hillier than the parallel, but similarly paved W&OD. Ran to the Glen Carlyn bathrooms (1804) and then walked to the 2.5 mile mark on the W&OD, just a little after the two trails merged, and then turned around (249). Ran (mostly) back to an alternate hill behind Valerie's house (1630), and then walked the rest of the way to Valerie's home through the elementary school grounds (617).

Another beautiful evening, with lots of people on the trails. Very nice to have company, and I hope Valerie's knee (and my knee) isn't too cranky with paved miles. Excellent company as well. Thanks Valerie!

Cycling (Trainer) 45:00 [2]
I'm just proud of myself for doing this because I was so ready not to. And then, it went by so quickly. Yay!
