| Running (Trail) 1:03:22 [3] | ||
| Since I didn't get to orienteering last night, I went for a longish run this morning on the South Valley trail in PWF. I hadn't been on this trail in a while, and I noticed it was quite a bit trashier from the spring storms. There were trees down everywhere, and piles of debris where they caught on trees in the creek or even up on the banks where the stream flooded out of its banks. And the trail was very sandy. AOWN: 2 box turtles, a woodpecker, a frog that got caught up in my feet as I was running by, and about 10 deer.
The park was also very busy, and this was before 9:00 a.m. Many people were out with their bikes, a pack of Cubbies were fishing, and a few people hiking on the trails. Very encouraging.

| I went to PWF for a trail run and decided to make it a tempo run. I find that if I don't consciously run at different paces, I'm stuck in the same slow pace. So, I warmed up for about 10 minutes, at which point I was at the top of the trail as it started to slope down towards Quantico Creek. Which worked out perfectly because it helped to get my legs turning over at the faster pace. I kept that going all along the creek, with the intention of crossing the suspension bridge and finishing up on the other side of the creek. But...the bridge was closed because it was missing some slats, probably from the last few storms. What to do, what to do? I looked around, weighed my options, and tiptoed across the bridge. Shhh!! Finished up, crossed back over, was done with the tempo part, and cooled down as I ran back up the hill.
So, this felt good to run faster. And, I found that I wasn't as tentative with my knee when I was going faster. I was running like I used to, carefree and without a worry. Yay!

| I decided to get out to PWF for an early morning run before the heat of the day set in. Today is supposed to be the last day of the heat wave and I'm hoping that is true.
I felt good on the run, although it was just an easy pace. I had forgotten my iPod, but it was nice to hear the birds that early. Quantico Creek wasn't quite as raging as last time, but it was full of debris, and the trail beside it was very sandy from being flooded over, and a few spots that were close to the creek were now gone...washed away like the sides of the rivers in Iowa. Luckily, there are no houses on Quantico Creek to wash away, too. I came up a little short on the time I wanted to run, so I ran the handicap trail twice. That is such a nice, spongy surface to run on. Too bad the trail isn't longer!

| I was going to ride outside tonight, after the sun got a little lower in the sky, but it was still unbearably hot, even after the sun set, so I rode the trainer in the nice, cool basement. | ||
