Running 1:39:00
I had already made arrangements to run with my neighbor, Carol, this morning at 7 in PWF. This was done before my late night orienteering excursion last night, and I almost begged out of this run thinking that there was no way I could get going by 7:00. In the end, I knew the rest of my day was going to be hectic and there was a very good chance that if I didn't get it done first thing, I would never get out for a run, so off we went.

And it was a great run. Still very humid, but tolerable. It just makes such a difference to run with someone, especially someone who chitchats the whole time. The run came to an end before I knew it, and I wasn't tired or sore or anything. I think it helps that Carol and I run at about the same pace, but always pushing each other just a bit. Very nice.

AOWN: I almost stepped on a baby copperhead! I screamed and jumped, while Carol got a stick to try to push it off the trail because we had just passed a couple with some dogs, and she didn't want them tangling with it. Of course, after that every single stick was another baby copperhead.

Cycling 36:13 [3]
On the road!! I finally changed my back tire from my "trainer" tire and headed out to the Battlefield. Unfortunately, I think my trainer riding knocked the rear wheel out of true, and after about 30 minutes of thump-thumping, I decided it was time to stop and take my bike in for a long-needed tune up. Luckily, a friend of mine owns the shop, so I get the service at a greatly reduced price. I'll get the bike back on Thursday, when I will try again.

Orienteering 1:09:24 [3]
Took advantage of the streamers that Valerie had set out at PWF, and went there to run that course. Unfortunately, I got a late start (7:30 p.m.), so by the time I got to #5, the woods were pretty murky. I had to wait until I got into a semi-open area in the woods to look at the map. I never did see the ribbons at #6, but I know I was in the right area. It as just too dark. So, I headed out to Taylor Farm Rd. and headed home on the fire roads.

My orienteering was so-so on this. I was too high on #1, went back to the first ditch and came back in lower and found it right away. #2 was okay, but I hesitated alot. Numbers 3 and 4 were good but I didn't actually touch the ribbons at 4 because of the snake. Five was good to get there, but it was so dusky, that I ran right by the ribbons and didn't see them. Ran down the ridge until I saw I was too far, backtracked and found them then.

Even though it was cut a little short, I'm glad I did this. I was so close to bagging it after spending several hours cleaning out my garage. I was dirty and sweaty and tired, and could easily have just called it a day and had a beer. But, I didn't, so I get a gold star.

Running 52:24
Ran the Quantico Creek loop at PWF. While I was warming up, I kept thinking, "Tempo run? No tempo run." I even went a few minutes past my warm up time, thinking I wouldn't switch to a tempo run, but then I did. And I was glad. The bridge was fixed, so I didn't have to make any clandestine moves there. But it was so humid tonight. When I was finished running, I felt like I had been in a shower. Yuck!

Running (Trail) 41:32 [3]
I went in to the office today and brought my running clothes, just in case. Around 4:00, I realized I would be able to get out in time for a run, so I called Ms. Lance Armstrong to see if she wanted to join me, but she was too busy biking!

I ended up going to Wakefield Park and running the trail towards Lake Accotink and back. It was really crowded tonight, with mt. bikers whizzing by, lots of runners, and even more walkers. I guess I should be happy that so many people are out exercising, but it's also nicer when the trails are less crowded.

I felt great on this run, kept up a good pace the whole time. Yay for me! No AOWN episodes except for the bug that flew in to my mouth and that I couldn't get out fast enough!
